Along with Barry, my bet would be on the Thermostart module leaking. It's simple to replace.
Sounds good, I've got a thermostart and filter on the way along with manuals. We'll see how that works.

And most likely If the Thermostart is leaking Diesel it would be sucked into the motor not blown out of the intake into the Air Filter. No way that much Diesel from the Thermo will end up in the Air Filter. It prob. wouldn't even run if that was the case and the first time he used the TS would most likely be the last if it worked. When I fill up the thermostart tank, the tractor smokes until it's uses the whole tank. Hoye says that means the thermostart is leaking. I guess I'll start there then on to setting valves and compression test. There were a couple gaskets in the AF housing, that made the air filter fit, so maybe the previous owner wasn't using the correct air filter and used some gasket to make it work.
If it has Thermostart,it is probably leaking.
