Akkamaan where can I find the hose size chart you have posted?

I would go with a single detent and use that for the retract function. That way if something happens, the ram stops extending as soon as you let go of the handle.
I agree on getting a 2 spool valve to power a loglifter down the road. Not much more now, but if you split anything larger than 12" across, your back will appreciate a loglifter (with the smaller stuff I have been known to use the loglifter as a preload table and have my "loader" stack 4-5 pieces on it that I can just roll down when I finish with the current one.

One thought on design, my parents and the neighbor built and share a logsplitter, it has the wedge at the end and a flat pusher plate mounted to the ram. That makes it very convenient to let it dump the split wood off the end. My FIL has a splitter from tractor supply, it has a stationary end plate and a wedge mounted to the ram. It has to be that way for the vertical/horizontal piece to work, but you have to do more work to keep the area right next to the splitter clear.
If you are going to have this be a horizontal only splitter, make the flat plate move and the wedge fixed.

Definately have the pushplate on the ram. PITA clearing wood all the time otherwise. Plus, you can have better use if you decide on 4way split or more.

Yeah, I want to put the push plate on the cylinder. For two reasons: 1) like you said, it keeps the wood pushed away from my work area, and 2) it doesnt put as much rotating force on the push plate and cylinder since you are pushing the wood thru the wedge instead of vice versa.

I have a 25 gallon Buyers/Northern Tool hydraulic oil tank, but I'm thinking about just using a 6x8 piece of steel tube. If i do, is there anything special i should do to the inside of the steel tube before sealing it up?

My Pleasure! Good Luck Now! Please keep us updated!

AKKAMAAN: can you help me read your charts to figure out what size lines I will need now that I've bought a 22 GPM Haldex 2 stage pump instead of the 16 GPM one that i used to have? Thanks!

I've bought my 10 HP diesel engine, 25 gallon hydraulic tank, 22 gpm pump, now all i need is the Prince LS-3000-02 valve and to figure the lines out. I'm hoping the 1.5" return line will work once it leaves my return filter (rated at 35gpm) and 3/4" will work even though the outlet of the pump is 1".
