1. Would you fill a 285 gallon tank (new metal tank from nothern tool) full today with regular sulfer 500ppm off-road diesel at $3.94 per gallon? or would you fill it half and see what govt/oil companies are going to do as a result of the political pressure???

2. What would you add to keep it stable? and where do you buy it?

3. How long will it last? It will be stored under an awning away from direct sun and weather, but not the outside temp, typically zero degrees to 85 degrees.

Thanks so much for your input!

This consideration would be irrelevant to my decision to fill the tank.

Power Service and a algaecide (sp?) from Tractor Supply.

The last time I got fuel was 7/3/07 and it's still good.

Fill it. Then relax. Not caring about the fluctuations of diesel prices: priceless.

I would try PRI-D. I've only used their gasoline stabilizer (PRI-G), and it's fabulous stuff. I've never had any outdoor power product die from green death since using this, and I mix into every gas can, not just in fall/storage time. The company started with the diesel stabilizer, so I assume it's equally as good.

I will wholeheartedly 2nd the PRI-D recommendation. I've been using PRI-D in all my gasoline on the recommendation of one of their distributors, rather than having 2 products. It was a night and day difference on gas powered equipment that sat all winter or all summer, started right up. I've used Sta-Bil for many years, and never had that good of a result.

I use Sta-Bil at twice the recommended dosage and have never had a failure.

You must really trust all the seams and fittings on that tank to dump in $1200 all at once!! Do you have a backup plan to drain/purge the tank to facilitate repair or replacement?

My dealer has a 150 g minimum for delivery.

I buy annual consumption and do not add anything to barrel, only powerservice in the machine tanks for cold weather gelling.

Last thing - this is market peak for pricing - take a look at Hudson Bay fuel futures > I paid $2.81 in Jan 08 near the seasonal market bottom.

If you want price reduction, go to China and India and tell them to stay 3rd world (guess China isn't now). They're the one really setting the price of crude.

At $120/barrel and 42 gallons/barrel, that's pretty close to $3/gallon just for the FEEDSTOCK. Tag on refining, shipping, canning/containing and taxes and you have near $4/gallon or above. Nothing the oil companies can do about the ole supply and demand.

Get a smaller tractor. Put CFLs in place of your incandescent bulbs, put a heat pump on your water heater, get a smaller pickup, get a smaller car, insulate your house better. Wake up, America! We're a wasting.

My dealer does too but they filled my 55 gallon drum while they were in my area.
