Diesel smell

AH!!, waking up to diesel smell is heaven in a combat zone, means you made it one more day. RVN we lived in plywood huts. To keep the termites out and make floors easy to clean we kept them painted with diesel. Still love that smell today. Use it on the deck of my equipment trailer.

Diesel exhaust reminds me (powerfully!) of the old 'briquette' charcoal barbecue my Dad would use back in the 60's.

[Quick Salty Sea Ditty] Whilst serving on an "O" Boat (diesel-electric submarine); when we were surfaced, my position was up the 'fin' as lookout... one whiff of the diesel exhaust and I was drooling for a STEAK! [End Ditty]

All this talk of castor oil. Do you mean actual castor oil that can be taken internally or Castrol the brand name of petroleum lubricants??

From an article "Castrol from Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car:"

if you really have a hankering for that smell, Castrol still produces a range of castor-oil formulations for vintage racers and the like.

I saw a bumper sticker on a diesel powered pickup many years ago. "The smell of diesel makes me horny." I still get a kick out of that sticker.

I believe it was in a documentary where I learned that the WWI fighter planes engines were lubricated with castor oil which came back on the pilots. Enough was said to have been swallowed to give them diarrhea. It kind of takes the glamor away from the fighter aces imagining them with their pants full of poop.

I too am a lover of the 2 stroke odor. I have been snowmobiling since the 80's and have had many variations of the odor causing motors. Lots of people swear by 2 stroke smell as their favorite on the forums i frequent but I will say the diesel experience is about the same and it's my summertime hobby. Cutting the grass with it. Also, my CS5720 saw is a favorite for use when frequently needed around the property. So I get plenty of fun with those now a days. But years ago it all started with the 2 stroke Yammy 60cc Mini Enduro we had. That was fun as a teenager and also I built a Pay n Pak Hydroplane racing boat (balsa kit model) that used a Enya .40 engine on it. Still have it too. Refurbished it about 15 years back. It works good still. Even with the original Futaba controller even. Gotta love the 2 stroke engine. It's done it's job over the years. In a lot of applications it's still unbeatable. And hence why they still exist in products made today.

I too enjoy the smell of a diesel and a 2 stroke. My new 5075E really disappoints in this area. If swear if they come up with DPF and EGR deletes by the time the warranty is up on this thing then they will be getting deleted.

I always the cats and do muffler mods on my saw and weedeaters. I just really miss the smell of my old 2 smoke dirt bikes. :(

I use an additive from Castrol. Also increases the octane number a bit.
