Anyone have one of those drum looking tanks on legs to store fuel in? I am tired of fetching diesel from the farm co-op and am thinking about getting myself one of these things.
I have seen most of them with what I assume to be water filters, and wondered if you buy them or rent them or if there are pros/cons of having them around. Sure would be nice to have the diesel delivered and ready when I need it.
Thanks!

I just got one. I purchased the tank, filter, and pump from a local tank supply store. I have a tractor, pickup, and car that use diesel (I buy the highway diesel). The smallest tank I could get is 275 gallons. I think you wouldn't want to have more than a years worth of diesel on hand so is doesn't go bad. I almost went with a pump on my home heating oil tank, (for my tractor only) but my tank is inside and it would have been complex to plumb it in. It has been very convenient so far and I pay a little less than I pay at the station. If you get one, I'd try to put in on the north side of a building to keep the sun off of it most of the day. Also paint the tank white. Keeping it cool should extend the shelf life of the diesel.

Here's a thread with other options....

I got a plastic 55 gal drum (for free) and a rotary hand pump with hose ($120) from northern tool. I bought some castors and made a dolly for the drum.
I can get 50 gal of off road diesel at a time. The hardest part is unloading the full drum with my front end loader.
Now I don't have to dislocate my shoulders while lifting and holding 5 gal cans.
Now I don't spill diesel all over the place.

This set up has worked great for me the last 18 months.

The 55 gal poly barrel, that is were I want to go. The steel tank we use is rusting badly and gets water in it all the time.

The tanks are available to buy privetly or rent from the suplier . Setting one up today may mean you need a retention container the size of the tank in case there is a spill.

The tank is vented. Condensation will occur.

Water filters can be put on the hoze.

Most farmers will have this type of tank or even tanks.

I got one a couple months ago, and have been very happy with it. Mine is 300 gallons. My local co-op will deliver a minimum of 150 gallons, or 100 if I am willing to wait until they're in the area. I paid $1.80 for 150 gallons -- now I wish I had filled it up!
