Diesel Storage Tank

My backup generator is an 8kw light tower with a 50 gallon diesel storage tank incorporated into the enclosure, and mounted on wheels. Plumbing another outlet into the tank, and attaching a small electric pump, driven by the generator battery makes fueling up very convenient. To get more diesel, just drive the trailer to the nearest station to fill up.

I got new 55gallon drums for $30 from my off road diesel dealer, I keep two to three tanks around for the generator in case of hurricane makes refilling difficult, I moved them with FEL and rim hook barrel lift chain. See pic. Keep drums sealed off the ground and out of the weather. The nozzle has a lock open clip and hand pump moves a lot fuel fast.

Good morning everyone.

No rain for going on 30 hours!

Diesel is not hard for me to get, the guy said no problem to deliver 100 gallons.

As I said, I will figure something out for a tank.

$4.00 a gallon? About that time I bought my place in the woods just outside or Portland. It had a 1000 gal oil tank for the furnace.

Apparently you pay a little more per gallon if it痴 delivered and possibly a deliver fee, I don5 remember.

What I do remember is it was going to be over $4500.00 to fill it. I had them bring the minimum, 100 gallons, kept the house cold and burned the 100 gallons up in less than 1 month! Then I discovered pellet stoves.

On the move from Portland back to Carolina via Phoenix. I was driving 2005 dodge 2500 with Cummins diesel engine, pulling a big trailer. Middle of the nite, middle of Cali on the 5, $175.00 to fill it and, I was happy to find it out in the middle of the valley.

Someone just told me, if you allow for inflation, gas is cheaper now than before the Arab oil embargo. How痴 that working out?

Thx

I don稚 use that much so it痴 tuff to get a deal.

Alls well, I will figure something out the does not involve gas cans and smelly fuel!

Truck mounted tanks are the way I go.
My smaller truck has a 50 gallon and my bigger truck has an 80 gallon. Couldn稚 function without them.
If you spend wisely, you could get a used 50g set up for a couple hundred bucks. A new one will set you back about $600

I am pretty sure my fuel delivery guy will refuse to fill a plastic tank.

Here is my 2500 liter double containment with 110VAC pump, meter and filter.

I’ve been told, it the filler hole on the storage tank is too high, you must provide a ladder or something for the delivery guy.

Looks like you got that covered!

Of course!
It is Canada!
There is a law/rule/permit required, and/or inspection department, for....EVERYTHING!

In Nova Scotia, our garbage was inspected prior to pickup, to make certain it was "properly" sorted.

That is a real nice looking setup. 8 foot deck?

I have a 500 gallon in ground wrapped against moisture and under a covered shed. I use a hand pump through a Goldenrod filter.

By having the tank in the ground and under cover I avoid temperature swings causing the tank to breathe. I have a check valve in the vent line allowing air to only enter the tank while pumping out and not exit the tank (no free flow of air). I have a free flow bypass valve for filling the tank.

I have never in 10 years had a contaminate to remove from the filter but regardless the filter gets change regularly.

The best thing I started doing years ago is keeping my fuel tanks on the tractors full especially in the winter to avoid condensation.
