Diesel Supply

Is any one else experiencing a short supply of diesel? Not just huge price hikes but no availability?

One station in town sells diesel. They put up a sign on Friday "Out of Diesel, Sorry". I asked when they expected, or even hoped for, another delivery. The answer was "We have no idea".

I expect much of the supply is being diverted to where it is needed most...LA, MISS, and truck stops on the way where the relief trucks need to be re-filled.

I just wondered if any one else may have to leave their tractor parked for a while.

No shortage around here as far as I know -
Couldn't believe it but paid only $2.74 for on road Saturday.

I ordered my fuel oil for my house last month, plus enough to fill my 150 gal tank for my tractor @ $1.92 - holding my breath now to see if it is delivered at the price........

Seeing lots of pumps out of gasoline and some out of diesel here. One local supplier has taken all his tankers(8) but one and headed west and then south working for FEMA. I filled up the week before the hurricane.red $2.29. It's around 3 bucks now. May get worse before it gets better. Just hang on. Hope it gets better before winter. From what I hear the price goes up going south.

We're feeling it here in the Atlanta area. Our major pipelines come out of the New Orleans area. They have been shut down of running minimum capacity since the storm. Some of the gas stations have been out of fuel since Thursday, diesel has also been affected though not as bad. They cannot even say when they're getting more.

Here in Merryland, gas prices were quick to shoot up last week, to as high as $3.69 (regular!) but seem to be sliding down now. Diesel went to $2.79 or so- a bargain. If I see gas at $2.99, I'm gonna think it's a deal!!

Any of you guys see the pictures of the electric Yanmar? Maybe its time is come. If I recall correctly it was a home brew using a big aircraft starter motor. Just think if you had solar panels to keep it charged.

Before the storm the high price on diesel was 2.59 in my neck of the woods. It dropped back to 2.54 the week before the storm. I think it was last Tues/Weds, I drove by and the price was back to 2.59. That evening when I stopped to fuel up it was 2.69. Next morning, 2.89. Its been at that price since then. Some places are out of regular gas. Diesel right now is at least 40 cents a gallon cheaper. Usually its within two cents one way or the other.

I was going to work the tractor this weekend but I had a probem with my chainsaw. Everything was ready to go and the oil cap somehow pushed itself into the chainsaw's oil tank. Had to destroy it to get it out. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Could not get a replacement until this week. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Figured I would just do other chores instead of running the tractor. So I got out the brush cutter and went to work. Used the gas cutter on Sunday. The manually operated one on Monday. My arms hurt on Tuesday. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, on my way to get a new grease fitting for the FEL mast, I saw the tanker filling up the diesel at the gas station. On my way back by, I bought diesel at $2.96/gal. That's $0.40 less than I had to pay for gas. 1st time in years I've paid less for diesel than for regular gas. At least I can keep moving rocks, for a while.

P.S.: I'd trade moving rocks for faster recovery relief in LA and MISS.

Forgot to add in my other post that truckers are limited to 50 gal. now. The middle of last week it was 100 gal. They just drive from station to station get more fuel so they can keep them running. Lots of logging outfits here so they are limited to this area for fuel.
