Re: Diesel tractor been sitting for \"awhile\"

Toby, I have a ford 3000 2wd with a FEL. I don't know what use you have in mind for a tractor, but will caution that a 2wd won't allow you to tear a tractor up nearly as easy as a 4wd. Farm tractors are great to have and a FEL is a great option, but loading tandem trucks with a farm tractor will take it's toll real fast. A small CUT with a loader is pretty good, but the weight is low enough that you don't tent to tear anything up where-as a 6000 lb farm tractor will tear it's self up pretty fast if used comercailly. For home or farm use a 2wd tractor will do a good job, but for loading big trucks much, I'd look for a TLB, or an industrial tractor. HTH some

Re: Diesel tractor been sitting for \"awhile\"

Howdy Nat , at first the idea was just to keep the place "cut down" ,I was really just looking for a MF 135, that would have been ideal. But as always , having a dump truck setting at the house, folks started stoping by wanting a load of rock, or top soil, etc. Well after talking to a few others, the idea was to have some of each on hand here at the "farm". That way if on weekend someone came up looking for say a pickup load of stone I would be able to load them. But also having a large dump truck, I need to have something that I can load the truck with. (roughly 9' on the side) So needless to say the tractor keeps getting bigger. As my wife says "I have looked at so many i'm dazed and confused". I started looking at the used tractors (the Ford) for the price, and knowing that I would still be ahead money wise , even if I did have to do some work on it. Although money is still a major factor ,my time seems to be a bigger one. Seems like there ain't enuff of it. As so many others know. Really I don't like a loader on a tractor, but as I had to unload a large air compressor from a trailer, (winch on 4x4, large tree limb, then moving it into barn) I saw just how handy a loader would be. But I really do think on the "wisdom/thoughts " that I get here. Thanks to all that have posted in the past , and the future also .Toby

Howdy all, just the latest on the "Ford". The man called me back the other day and told me he had the tractor running, started on 2nd try. Didn't say anything about the other parts /systems on it. I tried to post pics, but told me pic was too big. So guess i'll close on this one , and just sing "Green Acres" as I ride my "green tractor" around. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
