It's a shame. That Allison behind the 8.9l Cummins 350hp in Engine-28 sure works sweet. And that was in a fully loaded engine; not light... The older '86 E228 with Cat3208 and Allison worked really well too.

Wish I could swap that 8.9l Cummins and Allison into my truck! But, it'd bend the front axle and pop the front tires /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Has anyone out there put a performance chip in their diesel truck? I just got a 2002 F-250 Crew cab.
I purchased it from a dealer in Canada and had it shipped to NC. If anyone is in the market for a used truck, I would highly recommend this route for cost savings.

Thats what I kinda thought too. The old 727 was almost bullet proof in its day.

I've had one in most of my trucks. They work really well. You really should add gauges and a bigger exhaust with one though.

Do you have a brand preference? Have you ever experienced problems with them?

Personally I like the microchips supertuner. You can program that one for either 60 hp or for 80hp. If they change your program in the truck for repairs this tuner will pick it up. Most of the others you have to send the chip back to be reprogrammed for whatever code you have in your pcm.

I'm on my 4th Duramax/allison truck,
I get GM discount so I sell or trade between
6-12 months,I pull #14-16k trailer quite often
and have had no problems.
I've also went to 285/75R16 tires for
better fuel economy and still no trouble.
We have some hilly ground around here.
I'm in process of getting another(like the new
blue paint close match to NH) truck.

RobertN, only gears available in a Ford with single rear wheels is 3.73 (diesel). I know people with 4.10 gears in dually trucks, their only complaint is lack of top-end speed. Remember, these engines will not RPM like a gas, 80 mph with 4.10's and it's getting asthma.
The only reason those old autos held up to those big blocks was no overdrive. Less torque too, I suppose. These overdrive transmissions don't even like small gas engines and towing.

Have to disagree with you there splitfire. That may be true on the old diesels but on these new diesels anyone of them could run down the road a 100 mph and not be asthmatic at all. At 100mph, unless you haven't removed the speed limiter, you still have alot of pedal left. Not that I would ever try, /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif, but you can do 115 and better with one.

When out west I usually run 85 with the trailer and still lots of pedal left. Compartment noise is normal as well.
