Did you get your dif lock sorted out?

Your dealer is doing you a disservice with his erroneous information. It needs adjustment or lubrication.

Also be aware that if it is barely engaging, it rounds off the cogs on the diff lock. Sounds like yours isn't even engaging that much. When adjusted properly, these work just as described by several folks already. Stop the wheels from spinning entirely, try to engage, if cogs are not lined up, spin a wheel slowly and in less than 1/4 turn of a wheel, the diff lock pedal will drop a little more and you are engaged.

If you engage while the wheels are spinning fast, it is easy to damage the cogs as it rounds off the edges, then the diff lock will not want to stay engaged, even with increased foot pressure. So do be careful with that.

For those of you with older 3016/3616 and 1526, if the diff lock cog does get damaged, the tractor does not have to be split to fix it, but the right side axle housing does have to be removed. It's a few hours work, but nothing crazy.

Hi Daves tractor,

I've been too aggravated to even deal with this.
I agree this appears to be out of adjustment, but how do you adjust it? Is it a splined shaft that may be on the wrong alignment? There is no adjustment in the linkage or bump stop. The pedal just pushes straight to the bump stop with no engagement.

I guess I'll need to haul it back to the dealer.

Thanks for the response!!!

There is an external linkage adjustment. Trying to describe it with words is another matter. It's not a splined shaft issue. On a 1526 HST, you will note the diff lock pedal is on the left. The adjustment is on the other side of the transmission just in front the right side axle housing and immediately behind the hydraulic filter. Look down next to the seat on that side towards the ground with a flashlight while you (if you have long arms) wiggle the diff lock pedal. You will see it.

Dave,

So If I understand you correctly the rod I see passes through the transmission and out the other side to go back up to another external linkage? I poked my head under the tractor this morning on my way to work and snapped this picture. So the adjustment at the arrow in my picture is the adjustment for the Diff Lock? I was so focused on the left side of the tractor I didn't think the adjustment would be on the right! Adjusting this will be way easier than trailering this thing all the way back to the dealer! I'll have to give this a try tonight, Thanks!!!!

I wonder if this is similar to my Max28XL? The Diff lock has the same issue, really tough to get it to engage.

Next time I'm under the tractor I'll look. This a is a help.

Thanks

Roger66, yes that is it. It is a simple adjustment, but sort of a tight area to get to.

Mike 69440, yes for you as well. I think on the Max28, it might be easiest to remove the right rear tire.

I can tell you this much, If I lived in the state of California and owned a Mahindra, Daves Tractor sure as heck would be my dealer!

Thanks! You and k0ua are great contributors, so your kind words mean something. But Mike, I think you would put larger cylinders and turn up the pressures on everything you sold. Sort of "you want that tractor supersized". Ha!

I'm betting that's it! Thanks! I won't be able to try it until next week, but I'll post back when it's done. Thanks!!!!
