john deere 4100 with fel and 54"mmm and jd 400 with fel and brantly backhoe and 60"mmm
Yesterday I went and picked up my used jd 4100hst with 410 bucket and 54 mower from a jd dealerships thats about an hour and a half away. this morning while playing wwith the bucket i noticed the diff. lock wouldnt lock and instead felt like i was inbetween a set of teeth that where ground off. this is while im pushing it all the way down to the floor board. so what im curious is if anyone else has this problem. or if anyone knows if the dealership will fix this for me. the warranty was never explained to me.thanks in advance for any help.
also it does seem that if i keep moving and hold the diff lever and then jam the bucket into the ground once in a great while it will kick it in.

Nick,

You have to stopped to engage it. Otherwise, it just skips over the gaps that the pall is supposed to drop into to engage.

Try this first.

Dont force it either - or jump on it.....should use gentle heel pressure

Press down on the lock pedal while stopped as you gently press on the hydro pedal allowing the tractor to slowly start to roll. As it starts to roll, it should drop in.

The differental lock on the JD 4000 series are easy to mess up if over used as I found out. The gears on the teeth get worn down if used a lot. I over used mine and after the second time of wearing out I decided I could make do without.

Yep, I'd say this tractor's diff lock is worn out. Bummer. Since the dealer didn't discuss warranty, I'm guessing you have none.
