About Snow blowers: they are actually snow throwers whether single stage or 2 stage.
Starting the the smallest snow throwers:
They are single stage with two rubber paddles or curved mounted rubber belting to increase the throwing efficiency of the snow thrower they are either powered by 110 volt single phase electricity or 2 cycle or 4 cycle engines.
The small walk behind two stage snow throwers with have a single open cross auger arrangement with shear pins for both halves and a high speed impeller paddle with 4 paddles in the impeller drum.
The larger 2 stage walk behind snow throwers will have water or air cooled diesel engines, or high horsepower gas engines, track drive, one or two horizontal cross augers, large impeller fans to cast the snow a long distance, very wide and very wide snow cutting area and are adjustable to raise the cross auger and tilt it left or right and also allow cutting benches in deep snows to remove it in multiple passes.
The 2 stage snow throwers for front and rear mount:
some are single stage for the smaller lawn tractors with reduction belt drive and one to one gear box drive.
The front mounted snow throwers require an under frame mounting kit and either a mid PTO or an extended P.T.O. shaft and reversing gear arrangement to provide the proper rotation to the front blower.
The front mounted blowers cost more because of the underframe mount AND reduce the ground clearance of the tractor which is a huge consideration in snow removal.
The front mounted snow blowers may also have or require a reversing drive arrangement depending upon the equipmment builders mid- P.T.O., rotation.
The smaller rear mounts:
The smaller rear mounts operate at 540 r.p.m. and have an open auger configuration which conveys the snow to the inmpeller as the tractor advances in reverse while it snow is being forced into the impeller.
A slightly larger rear mount can be used but will require a slower ground speed depending upon the snow depth and pack wieght from freeze thaw cycles.
A rear mount will cost much less to purchase and can be used on another tractor if you trade where a front mount will not be able to be of use on another front mount arrangement and new tractor.
With the open station you can twist slightly in the seat and use a suicide knob and steer the tractor with little effort and ease of operation because the suicide knob gives you huge steering swing with little effort and the tractor will follow the snow blower with precision.
The addition of hydraulics to operate the chute and the spout if you have dual remotes will make snow removal much easier.
The front mounts require the use of a four way valve if hydraulic ontrol is desired or can be equiped with electric controls.
As long as you have a good seat and a cushion if you need one, moving slightly turning in the seat to watch as you advance while backin in reverse or adding a pair of mirrors as well as a suicide knob to the steering wheel you will have no trouble with a rear mount blower.
You will have a better time finding buying an Allied from Ken Sweet as he is a sponsor in good standing here on the forum or a Pronovost snow blower as the sub contractor who builds the snow throwers for Kubota is RAD and they build machines for many lines.
The smallest single stage rear mount snowblowers with the large rotary drums or propeller fans require a larger horsepower tractor than a
