Case IH 595, JD 2210
Looking to use my father in laws post driver that he has set up for his mid 60's JD 2010 on my 92 Case IH 595. He bought the driver 30 + years ago and at the time the dealer changed out the control valve so he could use it on the 2010.

He connects the pressure to the loader QD and runs the return straight to the reservoir (case). The valve is a single handle that redirects the fluid to either side of the cylinder; not sure if it is a flow through valve or not.

The 595 has 2 sets of remotes on the back. Could I just hook the pressure into one of those and tie that remote control in the open position, control the driver with the driver control and run the return right into the reservoir? I dont see how this would be different then the set up on the 2010

My father in law is pretty certain that from what they told him when he bought the driver, the control valve on the driver would have to be changed to use on a newer tractor. I tried to call a dealer to see what there thoughts were, but since I couldnt find a model number on the driver, they couldnt help me. The post driver is a Shaver; hydraulics raises the ram, springs lower the ram.

Thanks

According to Tractordata your Case-IH is open center hyd's which is the same as the JD 2010 so attaching hyd's as you described to your 595 should operate fine.

The JD2010 is an open center hyd system.

Hydraulics:
Type: open center
Capacity: 8 gal [30.3 L]
Pressure: 1150 psi [79.3 bar]
Valves: 1 or 2
Total flow: 11 gpm [41.6 lpm]

Case 595 is open center

Yes, you should be able to do that. Check the relief setting on the Shaver valve as the older JD only had 1160 psi. The valve should be either Prince or Greasen.

Your Case hyd pressure should be much higher. The Case probably has more flow.

If one of your tractors had a closed center hyd system, you would have to change out the valve or maybe convert it .

The reason IIRC the post driver has the return go to the reservoir fill is do to the volume of oil that has to quickly return.

If he has a Shaver 8

The cyl is only a 1 in bore, and the shaft is the piston.

The reason for the large OUT hose is for the speed of the discharge. Less than a qt of fluid..

If the bore is about 1 in , and the stroke is about 48 in, the fluid volume is about

.16 gal

Thanks for the thoughts guys. It made sense to me but my father in law was pretty adamant that I check into it so thought I would see what others thought. It will be a couple months before I 'm driving the rest of the post but wanted to get things in line now so I'm not running around at the last minute.

Did you notice the operating pressure.

Recheck the relief valve on the post pounder.

OK, speed of return, not volume. Shaver manual states NOT to put a QC on the discharge hose and to attach it to the tractor hydraulic fill opening.

I took a quick look and didn't see a relief valve on the pounder. It is a gresen hydraulics and the only number I seen on it was 550 (model? Pressure?) I'll try and take a few pictures in the next couple days and post them. With the higher pressure on the Case, if I left it at idle or a low rpm, would the pressure be less or just the volume of flow. Thanks again
