different fluid effect on hydraulic motor

I have a new hydraulic motor that runs an auger that is connected to my skid steer.

The power from the auger does not seem to be what it should. It works but stalls easier than I think it should. I am feeding it 3400 psi and 24 GPM.

My skid steer uses 15-40 engine oil for the hydraulics per the manufacturer specs.

The motor recommends 32 weight hydraulic oil.

Could the oil be a problem?

Do you have a gauge on the system to verify that you are feeding it 3400 PSI?
Does the motor have a internal pressure relief that could be kicking in?

I do have a gauge on the line going to the motor. It is getting 3300 psi, my skid steer specs 3400 psi.

I am not aware of any internal pressure relief on the motor.

If the pressure is 3300 psi when it stalls, then you are doing about as good as you can.

Pressure and GPM of the hyd motor determines the torque.

If you are using 15W-40 in your skidsteer, my Case manual says to add some Case additives that helps the fluid somewhat.

You could do a flow and pressure test on the auger to see if it is getting what you say.

Is your auger designed for 24 GPM?

Size of auger might have something to do with work potential.

Type of ground you are digging.

A larger hyd motor on the auger might provide more torque.

If your auger hyd motor is a good motor, and it is working at the specified pressure, the only way to get more torque is to go to a larger hyd motor.

Increasing the GPM's will increase the speed, but can the motor take that volume and pressure for how long.

Skid steer is a JD. The auger I am using is small - 3.5" diameter drilling 10' deep holes in all conditions. I am drilling a lot of holes. Have drilled about 500 so far. It works, just does not seem to have the torque it should. On my tractor I run a 9" auger for fence posts off of the aux hydraulics with a a belltec phd and it my tractor is only 10 or so GPM and lower PSI and it seems to have more torque than the one I use on my skid steer.

Are you running direct 1:1 drive from the OMVW? Id say theres something wrong with the motor or the feed pump. Lots of drag in the flutes, but with about 1000 ftlb torque it oughta turn.

What is the back pressure or tank line pressure on the motor? Work is only done with the differential pressure across the motor.

Are you reading pressure at the motor or at the QD by the skid loader? Mibile equipment frequently undersizes lines and this causes excessive pressure loss.

Are you using 1 in or larger hoses for the hyd fluid flow to the hyd motor?

Do you have any idea of the fluid temp?

G'day check your auger it may be worn measure it at the top of the spiral and then at the bottom even a 1/4" wear can be enough to make it hard work for the motor.
