Differential Lock Questions On New Tractors

I would not buy one without it. The JD 4100 series I often borrowed before I got my 2310 had it and i used it often, and of course my 2310 has it and I use it all the time.:)

I must be the odd one then, because I could live without it. I have moved at least 100 tons of dirt, 50 tons of gravel, 20 tons of mulch, graded 1.5 ac, plowed snow with a 6ft blade on gravel with turfs. Because I have 4wd, I rarely use the diff lock. While it is useful, I would rather have the $500.

You must be on even and level ground. (flat lander):D With out the diff lock you really only have 2wd, with it 3wd, when in 4wd.

Yes Doug, I think we all know how that works. And for me, 4wd works great, when I need extra traction.
I maintain 4, gently sloping, (flat) acres. Now 3 years, of doing just the kind of work the little TLB I have, was made for. 95% of the time I am in 2wd. Having the weight of the hoe on the back is a major factor in being able to do that. Without it, there is a considerable difference. If I was working on hills, working in mud, or doing things that pushed the limits of the tractor, I would likely have a different opinion on the diff lock.
If I was finding myself pushing the limits of the tractor, I'd get a bigger tractor.

I think I use my differential lock almost every time I use my Dirtscoop pan.

When I am going across land and dips that cause one of the front tires to be in the air or have to have the BH off or it will drag, the diff lock comes in handy. I am not using the tractor to its limit just using it. :D

I did not mean to imply anything about how others were using their equipment. I was saying what I would do, if I had to use the tractor to its limits. Good excuse to move up.:D
I really like my GC2310. However, being surrounded by farmers with all kinds of equipment, I can't pretend to have anything more than what they call a glorified lawn mower.

Even with 4wd and R3's, I cannot imagine not having a diff lock for FEL work. Can't get a full bucket without it.

I don't think I would check to see if a tractor had it or not, just assume it's always there. If I bought a tractor without a diff. lock... it better have been pointed out that it did not come with one. It's just Standard Equipment for a tractor. I've used mine many, many times.

No way. I wouldn't own a tractor without a differential lock. There are times when going across a ditch where you will need the third wheel traction to get through. Without the DL, you are just sitting there spinning.
