Any tips for accomplishing the proper pitch? I plan on using a 3' level and letting the bubble just touch the black mark on the uphill side. Thanks for any replies.

Tape the level onto a longer board [ eight feet ] for better results. Using the bubble the way you describe used to be common practice. Also used to use "Batter Boards" for setting the grade.

With the lasers available today you may be able to use one of them.

Would you be able to trench the existing ditch a little deeper so you have daylight from your lines?

Thanks to all for your repleis. I had the eureka moment! Hand dug very carfully and found it. It was about 18" down. I just kept at it very slowly until I uncoverd it. I gotta tell ya it's not easy out there sweating in the hot sun while the hoe is sitting there calling you but it was worth it. I hand dug on both sides and then just kept shaving off the top and sides untill I found it. Props to the locating service it was right where they marked it.

As far as the tile it will have to come out just below the bottom of the road ditch in order to have enough fall from 270' away. Anyone ever have this situation? The ditch is always dry so I hope this won't be a problem. Please advise.

remember you asked if it in a conduit pipe or not? you didnt mention it here.

No the line was not in conduit.

As far as trenching the existing ditch yes I hope I can do that without to much trouble from the township. I don't know how much I will be below the ditch line yet but I'm sure I will be below it.
