Digital Camera: Spend My Money

If you're keen on getting up early Friday, some of the stores' early bird specials are offering really great deals the day after Thanksgiving.

Staples, for example, is offering a Kodak 5.0 megapixels with a 64MB memory card for $299. I thought that was a darn good deal. The 3.1 megapixel HP camera I paid $299 a year ago is now $199.

Yeah, I've just finished reading all those ads. Some pretty good deals, but I'd almost rather spend a hundred bucks more than face that angry mob! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Don't get me wrong, I like people, just don't like 10,000 of them all trying to get the 30 whatevers chain wide at the same time. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

What I've also come to notice is most of the cameras that I've looked at so far come with a very pidley amount of memory. I've factored that into my $300.00 range for the camera. I also have a $100.00 limit for additional memory. I can't buy the memory until I get the camera, because I won't know what type to get until then. There are some great deals on memory out there, too.

I have been shopping for a digital camera and have pretty much settled on getting an Olympus C-750. I read that you recently ordered one and are pretty happy with it. I saw the picture you posted using it, pretty impressive. I was going to get the C-740, but wanted rechargeable batteries. After adding the cost of these batteries and the charger I am not that far away dollar wise from a C-750, so I figure spend a little more and get the extra .8 MP, remote, and hot shoe.
Where did you order your from, Inoax?
Was $438 shipped or plus S&H.
What was your experience with the place you ordered it from?
I swore off New York City camera dealers years ago because of their business practices. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I had planned to order mine from Newegg.com for $461 shipped.

NY Yankees Fan posted info about the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10. It looks very interesting too, with the 12X zoom and image stabilization. They look to be a little more expensive and not real plentiful yet. Has anyone had any personal experience with this camera?

First of all let me tell i think the c750 is a fine camera, i paid $438 then s/h and ny tax for a total of $492.(tax may not apply to u ) i ordered late on a friday, it was shipped on monday and i had it on thursday. so far am very happy with the camera, the 16mb xd card is a little skimppy but it will suffice for a bit if u keep the res a little low . but i bought a 128mb xd card from a different place for $63 no s/h no tax del. in 3 days. if u want more detail email me or PM to me.

I have a Nikon 990. Both my kids have cheaper Nikons, that share the same feature that mine has, and which I really find useful.

This is a lens that rotates independent of the cameras lCD display.

The feature allows me to easily take pictures that would otherwise be difficult. One example, is the underside of my brush hog. I can hold the camera almost on the ground, while looking at the LCD display as the camera lens points upwards at any angle I want it to.

I can also hold the camera above my head and take a shot from that strange angle, while seeing viewing the LCD and seeing what I am actually taking a picture of.

Instead of holding the camera in front of my face, I can hold it on my lap and take a picture covertly if I wish...and no one notices...that worked real well when I was in Japan recently, and was taking a lot of stupid pictures to show my son in law what Japan was like from the "non tourist" perspective...

I really find this feature of being able to rotate the lens extreemly useful. I would not want a regular style camera again...and I am regularly reminded of this when I use my wife's standard style digital camera. Not that her's is bad, just that I like the functionality of mine so much more.

BILL. that is a nice feature, and i can see where it is VERY handy.but thEy don't make one camera with every feature, or if they do i t IS WAY OUT OF MY PRICE RANGE /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK. I'm looking for a camera in the same price range this thread started out talking about and I'm so confused!!!

Has anyone looked at the Gateway cameras? Any good?

can't comment on the GATEWAY camera, but i would think i might be inclined to stay with someone that has been making cameras for a while. i beleive ther are enough choices out there in any price range from manufactures that are noted for their cameras, i.e minolta, cannon. olympus, fugi. etc.
