My experience was with a JD Model A, about the same HP as yours, about 4000lbs +-. It did it easily. No preparation was needed.

Soils may differ, but I would think at the most two passes would fix almost anything.

Alright then, thanks a lot for bcp and all other members for your information and comments. I will be looking into getting one of those border discs. A neighbor told me of a old farmer now retired that may have one of em' laying around at his place and he may lend it to me. That would be cool. I don't really want to buy one as I may only need it once. In a couple of years or so I am planning to go to wheel lines.

Update! I was able to get the field watered all the way by using my side ditches. My field has side ditches and I really flooded it hard with them after using the main ditch. I was able to direct my water over the worn dikes by cranking those side ditches up with a high volume of water and I made it all the way down the field.

I still want to make new dikes though as it would make things a lot easier. But at least I got it done. Just finished it this evening. I will give it one more good watering in a few weeks and hope to get a good second cutting. The field is already greening up real nice. :D
