Dipstick color

Hi,

Quick newbie question.

CUB 7304. Checked hydraulic dipstick which in silver and can't see the level of the fluid. Dipstick feels wet but being silver can't tell the level.

Is the fluid clear or am I really dumb and it is empty ?

Does anyone have a favorite color they paint the dipstick so the level shows up easier ? I think I saw an answer somewhere before but can't find the answer using search.

Any thoughts on the silly question would be appreciated.

I have the same problem with mine, too. Hyd fluid is clear.

What I do...is use a piece of newspaper. First, I dip the cleaned dipstick in the diphole. Then, holding the newspaper flat in my left hand, I carefully roll the dipstick on the newspaper. Don't move the dipstick up or down. You can easily see the wet portion on the paper with the dipstick rolled alongside for reference. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will give it a shot.

Almost had a heart attack when I thought it was empty since it had just been serviced about 25 hrs ago. Had dropped it into a ditch but didn't appear to be any leakage when I got it towed out.

Wish they would color the fluid or there was something like food coloring I could put in so I would know for sure what the level is.

Wipe it, stick it, and then hold to the light and look for a line of oil..

Drill a couple of small holes in center of dipstick where full and add are and halfway in between. A lot easier to see clean oil when it is covering a hole.

Try gun metal bluing.

Think I am going to try drilling the holes and the gun bluing on the dipstick.

Should make it a heck of a lot easier.
