Direct TV problem?

   / Direct TV problem? #11
Hey Guys, Our main house is in the city so we have cable. That is another issue. We have talked about a dish for our weekend house in the mountains. There always seems to be a deal around here for free equipment and intro pricing for the service. What is hard to find is what will I pay a month, after the intro offer. Is the $35 per month about right? Also, any plus or minus about varies services? Thanks.

I've had Directv for 4 years in November. After about a year, I started getting 2-3 second lock up on just one channel. Went to the internet and found a list of what channels are on what transponders. Found that one transponder was not working sometimes. Signal would be at 89, then go to zero, then back to 89. Called toshiba and it was under warranty. Got a new unit. Two weeks ago I started getting the same thing on CNN, channel 204. Checked and found that transponder 7 was flaking out. It is no longer under warranty. I'm going to switch LNBs at the dish and see if the problem moves to the other receiver. If it does, I'll have to buy a new LNB. If not I will have to buy a new receiver. As far as weather fade goes, it only happens here when we have really bad thunder storms, and then it is usually so bad that we shut off the appliances and head for the basement anyway. If I find the list of what channels are on what transponders, I'll post it. Someone else asked about price. I paid about $29.00 a month for 3 years, then it went to $32.00. For the price, it still whips the heck out of cable in our location.

My Dish Network does not have these problems./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Direct TV sounds like they are taking lessons from the cable companies./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I hope it didn't hurt much./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I shouldn't brag to much./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif I've seen reports that Dish Network's parent company is trying to buy Direct TV./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

MarkV, the monthly cost just depends on which "package" you get (which channels you want). I'm paying $38.24 a month, including tax, for all the basic stuff plus the Encore channels. And I'm using the RCA equipment (I did my own installation) and Direct TV. But I got another flyer in the mail today offering the Dish Network, two receivers, installation within 36 hours, etc. for their "top 100" at $40.99 a month, or "top 150" for $49.99 a month (12 month contract required).

I guess I should have asked, does it do it on all of your channels?

I am paying $22 a month for about 50 channels on Dish Network. Direct TV has a similar package for the same monthly rate. The local cable company gets about $38 a month for their "basic package" which consists of a whole buch of channels I would not watch anyway. Who needs 15 home shopping channels anyway?/w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif I didn't get any of the movie packages because I am not much of a movie watcher.

MossRoad, I typically watch only several channels. It does seem to be one the ones I actively watch.

I hope to change my receiver out tonight with my idle one and see if it continues. I'll report what I see.

I'm wondering if this could have something to do with bandwidth and them sending out more local channels?
