Call DTV up, and tell them you want to cancel, keep your ground and tell them you are switching to Dish Tv. They will change there mind real quick. Dish will be cheaper for the first 2 years anyway.

How out of line was I?

I've had DTV for many years. One thing that has always been consistent with them is that everything is negotiable. You just have to be firm and persistent.

I'm going to buck the trend here. It isn't the responsibility of DirecTV to know your apartment management rules. When they moved the dish the first time, you must have thought that it was an acceptable location or you wouldn't have accepted it at that time. You asked them to move it again, and I think they have the right to charge you for it. If the apartment management stated that all mounts must be made of solid gold, do you think DirecTV should absorb the cost of the mount?

You should know that there are also FCC rules at play here that prevent management from denying you a dish mounted to space that you control. Although it's a bit late to investigate.

I'm fairly stuck with DTV as I'm hooked on the NFL package.

Though I didn't let her know that.

I agree with MikeInEbug in principle, but I could heat my house with the junk mail I get from those two dish companies. It's only right that someone should get something useful from them.

We had DISH for years and had a good bit of trouble more so than DirectTV (HD) that we have now. We were getting gouged and changed 3 or 4 years ago after having DISH for years. We tried to get HD thru DISH & a DVR they wanted nearly 100 bucks more than the service we had. They also kepts pulling stations we liked or moving them to higher packages.

Last fall we re-roofed and had them come out to remove & re-install. Guy was good and didn't charge us for the service charge. We also had them out 2 or 3 times in a row after it was new because of some adjustable rams on the roof mount tripod would fill up with water freeze and put the dish out of adjustment. first time guy just re-aimed it and chalked it up to wind. it lasted 2 days and was out again. re-called they came back & did the same same guy said he didn't know why it moved. Following week again had supervisor out & he saw the slide adjusters were upside down & filled full of water. lol just dumb luck the 1st guy didn't notice it or inexperience...

I would send the bill to the apartment complex or take it off the rent bill as they didn't specify what could be mounted to. it was more than just you so there were probably several people in same boat. Maybe contact some of your fellow apartment people and see what they had done?

Don't get me started on Directv. I was with them and had a Panasonic receiver 1st generation. bought it at Kmart as a kit and installed it myself. I had it out with them over HDTV and decides to go back to charter with their three plan. Internet, TV, and phone. Best deal. If you could whine yourself off NFL ticket that is. Titans have had sell outs since they moved to Nashville. No blackouts.

I have Dish network. 6 years ago I have them install it with HD service. That required 2 dishes to pick up 3 sats. For the most part I had good service. The only issue was that I had to use my 32' ladder for them to get to the dishes because they didn't carry one that long. A few years ago one of the dishes most have moved slightly so I called them up. The guy shows up and says that the dish used to receive the signal from two sats was being phased out and he needed to move the dish to get the new sat. After that my service sucked. I had them come back twice and each time they either offered to replace the box or said they tweaked it but it still sucked.

The third time they came out the guy had a real NY accent, kind of thought he was going to shuck and jive me (too many visits to electronic chops in NYC). He has a new guy he's training with him. He's about an hour late and now it's dusk and getting dark quick and it's getting cold. Guy gets about half way up the ladder, stops, and comes back down. I'm thinking wtf. He says the pulled a turn and burn (turned one of the sats instead of replacing it). He says it'll take him about an hour to swap it out but promises it will fix the problem. So I go inside and fire up the wood stove and wait. About 45 minutes later they knock at the door and come in. The poor guy is cold so I have him stand next to the wood stove to warm up as the box acquires the signals. As he's standing there he tells me that Dish pays a flat fee for a service visit, something like $25. Because of that they want to be in and out in 20 minutes (there's usually 20 to 30 minutes driving time) or less or try to charge extra fees to make extra money. Since then the service works great, best it's ever worked. I now only have one black dish vs the two grey ones I had before.

I have to believe that Direct is the same. It took me numerous calls and 3 service visits before I got mine service fixed.

just started with DTV four months ago - rural location so there were no cable options, either antennae or satellite. Have had no issues with install (they put it on a ground-tray temporarily, will put a post in the ground when/if it ever quits raining). have had absolutely no issues with them/service. I just appreciate having the service; was our camp area before the house was built, and while tv wasn't high on the list when 'camping', it jumps higher on the list when it is my FT home! will drop the premium movie channels when the freebie expires next month... don't have a sports package yet, but will probably pick up the nfl next fall.
