I have Dish network. 6 years ago I have them install it with HD service. That required 2 dishes to pick up 3 sats. For the most part I had good service. The only issue was that I had to use my 32' ladder for them to get to the dishes because they didn't carry one that long. A few years ago one of the dishes most have moved slightly so I called them up. The guy shows up and says that the dish used to receive the signal from two sats was being phased out and he needed to move the dish to get the new sat. After that my service sucked. I had them come back twice and each time they either offered to replace the box or said they tweaked it but it still sucked.
The third time they came out the guy had a real NY accent, kind of thought he was going to shuck and jive me (too many visits to electronic chops in NYC). He has a new guy he's training with him. He's about an hour late and now it's dusk and getting dark quick and it's getting cold. Guy gets about half way up the ladder, stops, and comes back down. I'm thinking wtf. He says the pulled a turn and burn (turned one of the sats instead of replacing it). He says it'll take him about an hour to swap it out but promises it will fix the problem. So I go inside and fire up the wood stove and wait. About 45 minutes later they knock at the door and come in. The poor guy is cold so I have him stand next to the wood stove to warm up as the box acquires the signals. As he's standing there he tells me that Dish pays a flat fee for a service visit, something like $25. Because of that they want to be in and out in 20 minutes (there's usually 20 to 30 minutes driving time) or less or try to charge extra fees to make extra money. Since then the service works great, best it's ever worked. I now only have one black dish vs the two grey ones I had before.
I have to believe that Direct is the same. It took me numerous calls and 3 service visits before I got mine service fixed.
