( AT&T has a major fiber backbone in an easement on my property. Do I get broadband )

I'm not sure what AT&T is doing, but I moved here 11/5/02 and got AT&T broadband "digital" cable TV and AT&T broadband Internet service. On their home page (which is still http://www.attbi.com/) there has been a small message, until today, that we're being changed to Comcast. And it said we'd be notified by e-mail and regular mail when to change our e-mail address. I haven't received any such notification, however, already the bill for both Internet and cable TV comes from Comcast. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I don't know whether there's been some merger, or just a name change, or what. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

This is going to take this tread off track. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif But here is Comcasts home page. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Click Here.
I had a local cable supplier that was bought out by AT&T. AT&T sold out to Comcast about 2 years ago. I’m happy with Comcast but there home page is not as complete as your AT&T page.
Here’s a little Comcast history. Click Here.

Thanks, Ron. I'd been to their home page, but hadn't seen that history. I guess it's a completely separate company from AT&T, and maybe that's good.

I'm using Direcway on a home network. Here is the speed result I got using one of the client computers.

Your Speed is: 1250 Kbps

I am really happy with my DirecWay. It's pricey at $59 per month but I would not be without it. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And here is my dsl at work:

Your Speed is: 6181.8 Kbps /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
(A little better than my dialup at home.)

Are we sure this is working correctly /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif ??

Actually. I don't like this speed test. Direcway has one at their site that is a lot better. (only works on direcway systems...) Also DSL Reports has a very good one.

The dslreports test seems much more reasonable:

2003-03-24 13:01:35 EST: 641 / 119
Your download speed : 641184 bps, or 641 kbps.
A 78.2 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 119225 bps, or 119 kbps.

I use Verizon, and they advertise 768k/128k, so that's pretty close - and pretty good for mid-day.

Ironically, I'm reading this after being without my DirecWay all morning long. Some kind of problem on their end. They said they were doing "testing to improve performance" and I'm thinking, "OK, why are you doing it in the middle of the DAY!?!".

But most of the time it screams. Faster than most flavors of DSL (most DSL connections will run at about 384Kbps - if you're seeing a speed test that says your running 6Mbps (6000Kbps) your foolin' yourself). Latency is sometimes a pain - I do keep my software up to date and it still can be an issue. And compared to any dialup - no comparison.

I just got a general email from them that version 4.2 software is coming out, and there will be a big improvement.

There is.
