Is your "reclaimed concrete" the same as my crushed concrete? If so, be careful. When I put 200 tons of crushed concrete on my pole barn site before building it was loaded with scraps of metal and wood. I would be real leary of this stuff anywhere you aren't going to cover with concrete or asphalt.

Around here (central Indiana) we use flume stone. It sounds a lot like the blue stone. It's crushed limestone with the stone dust included. The limestone pieces are 3/8" or less. Run over it for a year or so and it's just about like concrete.

Carl,
The Hard Pak or Ledge Pak as I know it up around moultonborough is a mixture of blue stone dust and pieces of Blue stone (rocks).
Blue Stone, for those that may not know. Is used alot for outdoor patios, fireplace hearths etc. it can be found in various square sized pieces around 1/2" to 2" thick by upwards of 2 & 3 foot square. I believe that a large portion of the supply comes from PA.
If there are any landscapers out there please feel free to either correct me or supplement my limited knoweledge of Blue Stone.
I usually buy my hard pak / ledge pak mixture from Brox Industries, they have plants scattered about NH. They usually have it mixed seperatly in several sizes of the blue rocks. 3/8's, upto 3/4 depending on what you might want. I was told that they sell alot of the smaller 3/8's mixture for horse riding trails etc.
Some of the local Highway departments use the hard pak / ledge pak on there dirt roads. usually just on the hills to battle erosion problems.
It is extremely popular around here as a finished driveway coating because it not only packs down like concrete, it allows water to quickly drain through and it has a very pretty dark blue color.

moon, use either 1 1/4 or 3/4 processed stone. the name refers to the largest stone size in it .it also has the fines or rock dust from crushing it.it will pack nice and you'll be able to roll stuff around on it. its usally sold by the ton.a tri-axle dump can usally bring you about 22-26 tons per load, depending on the local weight laws.don't use native gravel or bank run gravel because it is just sized and not crushed so it will never really lock together....tgello

Does anyone know if this product is available in the NorthWest? Montana area? Might be another name for same product.

Thanks All!
Lots of good info. I called a local sand and gravel pit and they call it gray stone here. 12.45 a ton picked up or 15.45 a ton delivered. Approx 20 ton per truck load. Sounds like a good solution for a few of my problem areas.

I will be doing the same with my barn soon. Has anyone heard of or used a material that the concrete companies have called "wash out" (around here anyway)? It is basically waste washed out of the concrete trucks after deliveries. It apparently is composed of dust, sand, & small gravel that was hardened, washed out & now semi-firm again in piles at their yard. It will not set up again like virgin concrete. What makes it attractive is that they give it away/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Concerns:
is there any silica-related health concerns from the dust?
Would it get "mushy" when wet due to the amount of dust?

Does anyone know of a supply of this Blue Sone in Ontario Canda - preferably east of Toronto in the Peterborough area?
It sure sounds like an inexpensive solution to a number ground coating projects like the drive shed, part of the barn, the laneway, etc.

Thanks
BTW - here is an interesting link to a discussion about <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=rural&Number=71328&Search=true&Forum=All_Forums&Words=dirt-crete&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=50&Old=allposts&Main=71328>Dirt Crete</A> Sounds like a lot more work than Blue Stone
