Dirt Scoop Differences

How does this dirt scoop differ operationally from the dirt scoops I see at TSC? Old Dirt Scoop

About the biggest differences i see are 1), it is not reversable.. That unit looks like it is only designed to be towed . many of the modern dirt scoops are reversible, so you can use as a self loading 'pan' while driving, or you can face them backwards and back into a pile.. this is accomplished by a double top frame and 2 sets of pins... and 2), the front lip doesn't appear to have a reinforced cutting edge like my KK unit has.. etc.

otherwise.. if you are using it as a pull to load setup.. it should function nearly the same. Dump/release is by a slightly different scheme than the trip lever dump that KK used.. etc... but that does not effect function that much.

( I prefer backing into piles.. so i like the reversable ones.. etc. ).. however from a collectors point of view.. I might get it to go with my older tractor.. etc..

WAY overpriced in my opinion.
Used to see those all the time on fleabay for $50.

I have a scoop made by J Bar equipment.
I got it off fleabay for $66. One of my most used implements.
It is reversable. Very handy to use backwards sometimes.

I did make one modification to it so that it was easier to dump.
One of these days I will have to get pictures of what I did
cause there is no way I could explain it.

I do wish it was bigger. It is 24w x 24L x 12d.
But if it was bigger it mite be too much for the tractor.

Otherwise I love my dirt scoop.

A 30" wide scoop is pretty common, so keep your eye's open. I built a bucket to mount on the boom mower to load some dirt with, and left open the possibility of making a scoop out of it, when the flair mower goes back on. It is 42" wide, so should make a great scoop for my JD.

Finally an issue I can really comment on since I am a new guy and a real novice. I recently bought an import dirt scoop that looked heavy enough to do a little light digging in a dry stream bed. It lasted all of about 2 hours before bending and becoming useless. Yesterday, I bought a 30" reversable dirt scoop by King Kutter and it is a winner for sure. That one on ebay will be good for picking up a tiny bit of dirt and no digging at all. I would not bother with such a light weight item and it is WAY overpriced.
