Dirt/trail bike riders here whats your favorite ?

I have a 1989 Yamaha XT350. All in all I like it. It is a 4 valve, 6 spd with the rear mono shock. I'm not sure if it is the 4 valve or not but seems to like lots of RPMs to develope any torque or HP. It is also very hard to start when it is cold.///Steve///

How about a 1976 Honda MR 250 Elsinore. Not saying its the greatest trail bike - but man, did I have some good times with that old beast!

If I remember, there was a very large exhaust setup. I'm 6' tall, and I remember having to be careful where you stopped, you could fall over pretty easy. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Probably would have been easier using the milkcrate to stand on while starting, but what seems obvious now didn't occur to me then....


My 465 had been modified - "slightly" - by the previous owner. He raced bikes, and this was an older one he was getting rid of. Incredibly fast. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Now I was kinda partial to Hondas myself, but you real motorcycle enthusiasts might consider the Dodge Tomahawk. I'd never heard of it until last night watching a Discover Channel program about concept cars. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've owned a few from Hodaka's to Triumphs, but 3 favorites were/are 350 Kawasaki Bighorn (wish I still had it), Suzuki RM400 (Bad to the Bone) and currently 96 KTM 620 EX.

KTM is a little heavy but I needed the extra beefiness to haul the extra beef (250lbs) I have now /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Also a great bike for the woods.

Current 4 stroke machines are really nice. Technology has come a long way since the 70's. I wouldn't even consider a new 2 stroker - they are way too much for my current riding style.

Thats what I am thinking. A friend of mine had one and I drove it some. It would flat out fly !!! I think it was registered for either 140 or 160 mph,not bad for a late 1960's model. It was not designed like a street bike,seems like the exhaust was high on the side of the bike,like an enduro/street and trail bike.

Best I can remember it was 1974-75. I put 20,000 mi on that bike in 3 years, between trails and roads!

I think they started making the bighorn around 72-73.
