Dirty hydraulic hoses

mrmikey, thanks for the video link! I never gave it a thought about all the dirt that comes from making a hose. Wonder how many new or rebuilt pumps get ruined because of a failure to thoroughly clean out the hoses before installation. I found this video on how to make a hose cleaner out of a 55 gallon drum. Importance of Clean Hydraulic Hoses - YouTube

A lot, especially when it is a hydrostatic system. I just fixed a "new" unit that had never made a job and the customer put 3 pumps and 2 motors on it before giving up. The filtration was wrong and the unit including hoses were filthy. CJ

You'll definitely want to cap off the ends of the system AND the ends of the new hose when you do replace your hydraulic hose. I know a lot of guys forget about capping off the ends of the new hydraulic hose or hydraulic fitting, but it's pretty important. I found a quick article on how to replace hydraulic hoses that you might want to give a quick read, here it is.

You can clean the outside of the hydraulic hose with a rag or pressure washer, then disconnect the hose and run something through it, like clean air or a cleaning fluid. Here's an article I found about how to clean hydraulic hoses, maybe you can get some different ideas out of it.
