Disappointed in Massey Ferguson

I'm never going to buy a Ford, GMC, Chrysler, VW, Toyota, John Deere, Case, Komatsu, Mack, International, Freightliner, Western Star, Maytag, Kenmore, Craftsman, MTD, Toshiba, Sony, Frigidaire, Jayco ever again. They all broke outside warranty.

Or anything from Sears... They screw you out of it any way they can.

But Polaris is safe. :D. :D

I have a 2003 GC2300. Bought originally by me at MF dealer. Less than 270 original hours on the clock. Muffler exhaust pipe has broke off and the exhaust heat melted the headlight assembly.

After doing a little research, it became clear that this is a known problem and they actually changed the design in subsequent model years. I called the dealer that I bought the tractor from with no resolution. Called Massey Ferguson USA with no resolution. The area rep did call me back but states that tractor is 12 years old and therefore no support, even though it only has 270 hours. I guess I should have just used it more in the first year and the exhaust system failure would have been supported.

Anyway, since MF isn't willing to stand behind its product, anyone have any sources for aftermarket exhaust system or headlight assembly? Any other solutions?

thanks

Your tractor is 13 years old, you have averaged 20 hours/year. It has sat more than it should have.

How is this MF's fault?

If he knew the pipe was broke, why did he drive it and melt the headlight? I bet he didn't know the pipe was broke before he drove it. The restriction in the exhaust caused the pipe to get hot and break. Once he had a broken pipe, he then looked into the problem and discovered it was a know issue.

Hope you're not a cop for the victims sake...

First you assume that there was a nest in the exhaust pipe!
NOW you ASSUME that the OP KNEW that the "the pipe was broke" (like in broken?), and just kept on operating the machine that way.
From your assumptions, one must conclude that the OP is a dunce!

Some of you guys need to learn to read better. The point is not a 12 year old tractor but 270 hours and the pipe is breaking due to a design flaw that was fixed in subsequent years, but no support for owners who bought the inferior design. Many commercial machines give warranties in terms of hours, not years because everyone knows that it is not only the years that matter, but how much the machine has been used.

For those of you who like to jump to conclusions without all the facts- there was no blockage- it is a poorly designed exhaust system with the exaust pipe in an unsupported horizontal position. And as for the damage to the light, i didn't know it had broken until after I was done mowing. Anyway, I'm trying to move on productively, which is why I asked for options for aftermarket parts- Massey exhaust is $300 and light assembly is $165

Just a fact of life......

Moving on is a good plan. Relative to what a new tractor costs and considering it is a dozen or so years old, that's really not a lot of money. If that returns it to an otherwise decent machine, it's worth it, IMHO.

In todays scheme of things, those prices are almost too low to believe. All the better, if you can install them yourself.

True. So should I expect the hydro pump to go out next? Or maybe the entire engine? Transaxle? Front axle assembly? Apparently 270 hours is the lifespan of these little diesel machines.

Disappointment comes from unfulfilled expectations, and this tractor has certainly failed to meet my expectations. If it had 1000 hours on it, dropping $500 wouldn't be an issue.

And those who say it just wasn't used enough, this is cutting grass once a week and little loader work for 13 years- pretty typical use for a machine this size.

I suppose......
I just choose to not have sour grapes over little things in life
$500...... is it worth the stress.....
Not for me.
Just think of the 270 hours worth of fun you had on it....
Less than 2 bucks an hour for recreation
Now you have found its biggest pimple
Pop it and go on with life

All I can say is that you're expectations for a manufacturer are much higher than mine.
