I never cared for 3 point disks, but if they are heavy enough or strong enough to take some added weights, they do all right. I just picked up a small one due to many recent requests from nieghbor's to work up some of their land. My slightly larger pull-type is a pain to transport on the road. I recently found a Howse, 6.5' wide, 3-point model in like-new condition ($300) for my JD 4120 (43 hp, 4wd). After adding 250 pounds of steel weight to it, it works great, cutting almost to the axles and getting plowed ground leveled good in two or three passes. The original owner did not use it much because it did not work worth a darn without any added weight (I verified that myself by making a few passes as soon as I unloaded it from my truck. I doubt I will use this disk much on my own farm, but a side job or two at the neighbor's will easily pay for it.
If you do not need transport the disk over the road, I would strongly recommend a pull-type model. The old JD, 8 ft, pull-type I use at home now, has smaller disk wheels but pulls easier than my 6.5 ft, 3-point. In a pull-type disk, your tractor would easily handle a 12 foot width, and it's tricycle front is perfect for that type. The only trike tractor I own is an old 20 hp, Alis Chalmers model C, and it handles my 8 footer ok, although I have to drop it down to 1st gear at the most aggressive angle setting (It does not put a noticeable load on my 43 hp JD 4wd, even at high speed and the most aggressive angle setting, that tractor could probably handle a 14 foot pull-type) Pull-type disks outperform 3-points because they are more flexible and maintain better ground contact with less weight. They cut your fuel consumption by almost half, when compared to doing the same job with a 3-point disk.
