Many HST trannys have a cruise control to allow you to take your feet off the pedals. Also, the brakes are on the same side as the HST control so to do a brake steer you need to engage cruise control. I don't do brake steering becasue of this. Too creepy.

I plowed the area first and this is the second time over with the disc. Some of the hydros have a cruise control to hold a set speed, but the BX2200 does not, I haven't noticed a need for it since I've never used one with that feature, like holding the accelerator pedal on a car going down the road, I just don't notice it. Pic of the plow attached.

I don't know what I'd do if i had to hold my foot down for hours to keep a set speed ... I guess a bumpy road or pasture may be a problem for that...

Yep that'll losen it up.

Interesting about the cruise control. BIL has a JD 48" rider and you have to hold the pedal. I think it would get heavy after a while, I use the CC on the truck any chance I get. On my old riding mower I just set it and go. I've operated backhoes with a shuttle shift and BIL's JD350 crawler has a shuttle shift (called a reverser in the old days.)

Reading that thread it sure looke dlike the general consensus was that gear may have an advantage over hydro for heavy tillage and ground engaging.. but I dind't see a single post that said that a hydro can not pull a plow.. etc...

Bif difference in 'can not' and 'some disadvantage'...

I wasn't taking sides in the can or cannot argument, was only trying to find the thread that was mentioned!

Hmm.. I did have alot of gear vs hydro threads bookmarked. I'm pretty sure I lost them due tot he software switchover.. but i will check thru them.

In all fairness, I'm one of the 'gear' people.. however.. i'm also not 'anti-hydro', and do recognize that for many tasks the hydro has clear advantages.. same with the gear.. etc. It is pretty fun to watch the discussions though.. as the hydro people are second only to the chinese tractor owners in how vehemently they defend thier ownership / use of those specific machines against any and all attack, or even negative coments... founded or unfounded as it may be.. etc. Makes for a good show..

My first hydros were lever operated and the lever would stay put so you didn't have to hold on to it. When everything started going to pedals I was very skeptical. I've been running pedals for a few years now. You simply don't think about it. You want to go faster, just push a little more. You want to stop, just lift your foot. Bumps, no problem, they have a shock absorber device that takes all the bounce out of it. You would just have to run one a while.

Most Hydro tractors have some sort of cruise control, whether it's a lever as I described above or a "latch" mechanism that holds the pedal in whatever spot you choose. If you are doing mundane work like brush cutting a big pasture it's useable. Anything less than that, you tend to just use the pedal.

I'm not so sure about those shock absorbers. Other than my air ride seat on my tractor.. there is -0- suspension, save frot he give int he rubber tires. I can't drive across a bumpy pasture using my foot throttle.. it surges as i bunce.. the air ride seat makes it easy for me.. but the pressure ont he pedal changes. I use my hand throttle since i have a gear tractor. if I had a hydro with no cruise.. I think my mowing chores would be more difficult.

As we have seen here.. there are some hydro's without crusise control. Glad most now have it.. I can't imagine driving thru a pasture at the rate of 8ac/hour hoping to hold the pedal down 'just right'... I much prefer some auto set.. like hand throttle.. or the cruise.. etc.

Milkman,

Thanks for sharing the video. It was allot of fun to watch.

I'm not familiar with the duel wheels. What do they acomplish? Do you need them for floatation or traction? From the video clip, I wouldn't think you'd need either.

Did you make you disk? Again, I'm not familiar with one like that. Does it float over the ground, or does it cut in better that way? From the video, it looks like your land is very rough, does your disk work better because it has four independent sections? Or do you get even more whoop-de[do's from it?

I have a solid disk and I've found that it will smooth the ground out as it cuts it. I've draged trails with it just to smooth them out.
