Yup,, I will open a bunch of post and put them in flat mode. When all the pages are completely loaded I then go to disconnect from the internet so I don't have to tie up my single phone line then computer shuts down and then restarts on it's own after running it's scandisk because,"windows wasn't shut down properly" blah, blah. No really! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. Does anyone have any ideas here or is my puter just addicted to this site and can't stand being disconnected? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Thanks for the input.

Does it re-boot only when you disconnect from TBN? In other words, does it happen whenever you disconnect?

If that were happening to me, I would clean out my temp subdirectory, my downloads subdirectory, and run a complete scandisk. Shut the computer completely down (power off), then restart.

Actually it does it in other forums too. Not only here. I clean the cache everyday with window washer that wipes the temp files and dir along with subs. Hmmm.. I just don't have a clue.

from your browser, just click on off-line and stop shutting off the computer,

Will clicking offline hang up the telephone line? I think he's trying to keep his telephone line open.

Can you explain exactly how you are disconnecting? Are you just clicking on the computer icon at the bottom right of you screen and then clicking disconnect, and is that when the machine reboots ?

Thanks for the help people... When I go to disconnect I will either bring up the connection window from the right hand lower side of screen and then hit disconnect or I will just right click the icon bottom right screen and click disconnect there. It actually doesn't matter which method I use it shutsdown automatically and restarts. I know it sound weird and that's why I have to ask you guys because it's driving me nutzzzzz. ha,ha. not really but is a pain. Shoot to make matters worse sometimes like when you get a bad connection and nothing seems to upload or download from internet it will finally disconnect and say that it can't find the search page....Well even if I don't hit any buttons and the ISP connection is lost....it shuts down.

Wow - I'd be launching it out the window! This is a strange one all right. If you have any soft power-down features, I would try disabling them. This is software that allows you to select "shutdown" from your start menu and it will actually take care of turning the power off for you. On some HP machines you will see the software in the Add/Remove Programs area of the Control Panel. I would imagine that on other machines it may be an option in the BIOS.

Sorry I can't be of more help. I'm ashamed of this fact, but as an admin who has to deal with Windows weirdness I find it a lot easier to solve these types of problems with a hard drive format.

I am kicking a reformat around but will look for some power saver features that you mentioned. I am not sure but am leaning toward a mother board because now the cd rom won't open, it doesn't acknowledge the A: drive, this modem crashes the system, keyboard will not respond to any key touches, blah, blah. Darn the thing is ancient (3yrs) /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif. You wouldn't think it but now days that's old. LOL.

I'm not sure if you are saying you are "leaning toward a new motherboard now" because you (1) think that is the problem or (2) you are tired of your old computer.

Can't say for sure, but motherboards rarely go bad after such a period of time (usually if they are going to fail, they fail within the first month or so). So, if (1) is your reasoning, I'd wait to do that after you try some other stuff. (perhaps you need to reload your BIOS settings if stuff isn't being recognized. Also check the battery on your Mboard to see if it is loosing your settings once you power it off.)

(2) - Well, that's a WHOLE different story. If you want to upgrade to improve performance, unfortunately just going after the Mom board won't help much. On top of that, you'll probably have to look carefully to make sure that the new motherboard you get will be compatible with all your existing cards, case, & power supply. Often the "upgrade route" is fraught with additions you need to make it work.

Rolling your own is the cheapest route to go (sometimes not by much depending on where you get it) and it can be kindof fun too - but I digress.....
