A bit of insight - Most all filters are the same... if they are truly cross referenced... It goes beyond just fitting to the mount. They also need to have the correct capacity (flow & particle retention) and media particle size (micron) rating.
Fleetguard (owned by Cummins), Wix, Baldwin, Donaldson, and Fram (there are certainly a few others that I am forgetting) all make liquid filters with metalic center tubes and steel end caps glued to the filter media. Interestingly, Cat is the only manufacturer that soley concentrates on manufacturing filters for their products (produced by AFSI, 50/50 JV w/ Donaldson). These AFSI filters are the only filters with the following:
1. Non-metalic center tube (less chance for metal shavings & higher crush strength).
2. End caps are formed from liquid material that the media is dipped into (less chance of leakage or loose glue - highest cause of filter problems)
3. Pleats are held in place by resin beading and spiral roving (pleat movement allows particles to work their way through the media).
More info could probably be found at Cat. com, but unforntunately, as stated above, these filters are really only targeted at Cat engines & machines... so unless you happen to have one, or one part number happens to cross reference... Just use one of the above brands, that has the same physical size and media (filtering) ratings as your OEM part number.
Did I buy OEM parts for my first service of my TC21D? Yes... because it was easy and I still have not had time to determine what true cross references exist.
