We have a good sized pond that we own on our property here in CT. The state last year finally allowed the beavers to be trapped. Funny thing is, when allowed, there is 8 inches of ice or more in the pond. In other words, the state is circumventing the animal activists groups by allowing trapping, only when it is in ice glacial form which is totally useless. Several years ago as the highway dep't, and 100 feet from where I now am and back into Massachusetts, I was turned in for breaking a beaver dam with the backhoe. Fish and game wardens didn't care that this one dam costs the town over 38 grand in damage by washing out a total road. A major road at that. For years we had chain link anchor fencing blocking ten feet from the culvert. That year, excessive rains, then the beavers built up and over the fencing.. One night it all decided to let go, taking culvert, road and all. Had Chase precast custom make a 8 X 5 ft box culvert, four pieces together, installed, then a month later the beavers back at it again. This, is when I decided to take the backhoe and break their new dam. Not fun dealing with another state institution regardless of damage proof.. Jinman you are lucky that you have options and not have to look over your shoulder every second. Of course here, homes are fairly close, lot's of traffic, and it is not easy to fire a weapon and pop em..
