Mowing Disengage PTO before idling down?

I'm more interested in engaging the PTO more gently with the clutch.

With the independent PTO, the only clutch that controls the PTO's motion is the PTO clutch. I learned to drive a tractor on Dad's Massey Industrial 35 which had a dual stage clutch, so when driving a L3880 I still try to hit the clutch when I want to stop the PTO for a second. Doesn't do anything (which I normally notice about the time I get the clutch to the floor).
