Digging out tree stumps can be a show stopper if you're looking to rent a backhoe...it's tricky. But once you know how the equipment will hold up. It's best to talk to a local phase one excavator guy.

Picking the back of the tractor up should not be a problems. Sometimes you have to to level yourself out side to side

Its not if you want to rebuild outrigger cylinders alot

Just what would fail that would require more frequent rebuilding?

The outrigger seals will take to much pressure and will eventually leak then progress from there... also if you lifting the machine fully off the ground you loose a lot of surface area taking the pressure of the backhoe... you may ask why.. all industrial backhoes are made to do this... answer is these are farm/utility tractors not industrial

I dont buy it. If the subframe is designed properly and the cylinders are adequate there is no issue.

On flat ground, I agree, there is no need to do anything more than take pressure off. But if leveling the machine to operate is needed, thats what the outriggers are for. If a MFG cannot design for that, shame on them.

But for a properly designed subframe hoe, no issue should come from lifting the back tires. And judging by the size of most of the outrigger cylinders on these add-on subframe hoes, I highly doubt its possible to over-pressurize the cylinders. The machine simply dont weigh enough and the hoe lacks sufficient power to do so.

And never heard of too much pressure causing seal failure. Whats the difference between a 2500psi cylinder and a 5000+psi cylinder? Wall thickness, rod size, pin size, end cap thickness. But seal design is the same. How about having a load in the loader and driving over rough ground. All them bumps causing pressure surges that exceed system PSI.

And even if there was total seal failure in an outrigger cylinder....big deal. Worst that would happen is it may lack a little power.

Purchased a new 4540 Mahindra tractor with front end loader and backhoe this spring. The hoe had multiple issues. I kept breaking teeth on the 16" bucket digging tree stumps. Mahindra told me the backhoe wasn't designed to dig tree stumps. However, they gave me bigger teeth and solved my issue.
Next I broke the subframe. This time they told me I abused my equipment by not torquing the bolts and didn't grease the backhoe. I informed them I was a mechanic for decades and that I followed the manual for torquing the bolts at 50 hours and I greased the thing every 8 hours. Just like the Manuel said. They informed me they found one or two bolts lose and that I should have greased about every 4 hours. Long story short, I was stuck with just With about a $700.00 bill. Beware buying Mahindra backhoes. I recently tried to buy a boom cylinder rebuild kit. I was told they didn't sell those. But I could try and find someone who could possibly rebuild the cylinder on my own.

You might want to look into getting a ripper tooth to dig stumps. I don't have a whole lot of success digging stumps with mine either. It's an ornery task for a light duty BH. If you get a ripper tooth get one with teeth on it.

LD im not disagreeing on how it should be made to perform and the worst of the cylinder problem would do is just drop power... just warning from what iv seen... I don't understand what was said about the stumps though from the dealer that's one of the better jobs these backhoes can do.. I enjoy running them also even the small ones... but still I have never needed to level up the backhoe so the riggers just stay firm pressure on the ground... I really really like the little 28xl bk combo

For what it is worth;
I bought a Backhoe for a older 3510 few years ago. First time I actually used it, while digging up a old rusted culvert, the boom suddenly dropped and I had to hold pressure on the lift to dump the bucket of dirt. It was very tough but I finished the project.
With the tractor running at PTO speed, the boom would just drop to the ground slow and not hold itself up.
Returned unit to dealer, after trouble shooting valves, pump, etc. the lift cylinder was removed and there was damage. Seems a stray piece of metal was in the system and damaged the seals, rod and cylinder enough to not hold pressure. It has been 4 years now with no issues.
Replaced under warranty.

I have a story for you! I bought last year ! it developed a leak where the hydraulics hook up to a valve on the right side of the transmission, at this point all is well with the backhoe! I fixed the leak with a temporary repair called Mahindra dealer they eventually months later came out to fix it. note their warranty dose not cover transport.. bull in my opinion, you have to pay for a service call. anyway they replaced the valve, I watched him replace it it was not a direct replacement and he was surprised too. he changed some parts over and installed it. all is ok with his repair, butt now when I use the backhoe it will bend the DIPPER cylinder within about 5-10 minutes of use! not even hard use the cylinder will get very warm compared to the other cylinders also after fighting with Mahindra for a couple months they REFUNDED my money for the first one,, now they want me to bring it in so they can inspect it to see if there is a valve problem!!! they only said this after I CONTACTED MAHINDRA DIRECTLY MY SELF.. I AM A FORD DIESEL SENIOR MASTER TECHNICIAN FOR 34 YEARS I SERIOUSLY DOUGHT ANY OF THEIR TECHS HAVE ANY WHERE THE EXPERIANCE I DO BECAUSE THEIR TECH SAID THEY HAVE NO, NO FORMAL TRAINING AND THEY ARE MAKING WARRANTY DESIONS ON VERY EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT...ANY THOUGHTS, I know mine was only 35,000 but some of you guys have a lot more expensive tractors than mine. and do you know of any reason that the dipper cylinder would bend 2 times.. they don't appear to be hardened because they will bend back close to straight when cycled back in several times I continued to use it bent and it still has not broken I am going to have it tested for hardness by a machinist to see how cheep of parts they use, I found the replacement shaft for $144

it is starting to look like these little tractors are only built for city type people meant to look at more than use. they are really under designed esp the backhoe don't get me wrong I really like having a small 2545 brand new it would not dig through the decomposed granite in my driveway it stalls the hydraulics out before it scratches the dirt under pumped or under built?
