My boss is remodeling his beautiful pre-statehood home (Oklahoma got to be a state in 1902, honest!)

He has dish network on several TV's. But not where he is putting his WorkAtHome PC. The monitor can display TV, so we'd like to get the DishNetwork there, but can't run a cable. What's the best way?

Thanks!!

Mike, this sounds like a challenge !!

I'm coming over with a really long drill bit and I'm not gonna give up till we have a cable in there /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I am not sure if they still sell them but I bought a wireless tv transmitter about 10 years ago. It has AV inputs and a small telescoping antenna and transmits on channel 11, I think ? If you can find one of these and put a small antenna on the computer/TV reciever it will work. The range seemed to be about 200-300 ft.

I was just remarking to my wife on Sunday, as we sat on the pool deck in different locations, each with out own laptop wirelessly surfing different parts of the web, that what we needed now was wireless TV so we could either watch in a small window on the computer, or have a small, personal screen we could move around to wherever we were. I already plan the bare minimum of cables in our new house for legacy reasons for phone and computer networking, and would like to eliminate TV cables, as well.

There are transmitter/receiver pairs available, but they require that the sending TV be on, and there is no good option for changing channels, etc. Whatever is playing on the sending TV is what will be received.

People are working on it, however, Here's one link to an announcement: wireless TV. Do a Google search for "wireless TV" and then ignore all the hype and misleading leading links.

Sure you can. Its just composit video comming out of the dishnet reveiver. Just feed it into any of the video extenders and put a receiver everyplace you dont have cables to receive one.
www.smarthome.com has a number of solutions.

Like others have said, there are a number of units that will tansmit video and audio from point A to point B. If you want full control of the dish box from the location where the TV will be, get a unit that supports two way and IR. That way, you can sit at the TV and control the dish box that is located in another room. They work pretty well.

Here's a link to a bunch of them.

All of the wireless transmitters mentioned have a pretty narrow bandwidth compared to the satellite signal. So the satellite box would have to be located where it has physical access to the cable. But the wireless units work great from the output side of the box to the TV.

One word of caution.... I have two of these wireless transmitter/reciever pairs that I use for the surveillance cameras watching the horses in the barn. Be aware that these video units run at 900 MHz.... the same as many wireless phones and that they do interfere. I have a multi-station 2.4 GHz telephone. But the remotes communicate with the base at 900 MHz. They break up my video images from the barn. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

There are many of these units that operate in the 2.4G range. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
