I currently have Dish Network with a dual-lnb. I have two lines coming into the house and a receiver hooked-up to each one. Here's the deal. I want to hook up 3 receivers. Some installers tell me that I can buy and install an expensive ($150) splitter on one of the lines and then hook-up and activate the other receiver. Dish Network claims that I must buy a new dish with a quad-lnb. They say they have never heard of this high-tech splitter.

Funny thing is, I have friends who have Direct TV and the splitter is exactly how then get up to four receivers all operating on different channels. They use a Terk Multiswitch BMS-34, or Recoton Multiswitch DSV95A.

So, does anyone know if this high-tech splitter will work on Dish Network.

Hi,

Nice tip here, but you had better spell it correctly, or people will NEVER find it---that's T-E-R-K (not Trek).

What mistake? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

So, do you think this will work or do you only check posts for spelling??

Hi Mrwurm,

Sorry I can't help with a Dish setup. Better wait for somebody to confirm the DISH setup. I use DSS with multiline setup. Works GREAT.

around here, a used dish to do what you are wanting, is a lot cheaper than that switch, no matter how you spell it.

Mrwurm,Have a very similar set-up with three receivers,plus an external VHF/UHF antenna.But,it's Direct T.V. I would'nt know why this splitter would'nt work for you.

That's right, you can also run your antenna through these things. It's supposed to combine the signals, then you use another item called a diverter or something like that to split up the satellite and antenna signals at the TV.

Ok, finally got the real facts from a third installer. He said that the switches I described will work on my old DISH300 system but not on the new DISH500 system. He said there is another switch (more expensive) that will work on both the new and old system. The idea here is that I will probably be forced to upgrade my dish to the new DISH500 system in the future. So, he says it costs about the same to get a new dish with the quad-lnb and then I will be up to date with the latest technology. So, I guess that solves it. The switch will work but it does'nt make sense to buy it for old technology when the new technology upgrade will solve my problem and cost about the same.

Funny new TV story...my last "new" TV I got at the bargain basement price of $0...was at the dump dropping of a load of stuff and there is a 25inch color tv sitting there, and I said to myself "that looks to good to be in the dump" so I brought it home, plugged it in and now 3 years later still going strong.

The little door that covers the knobs was broken off, but besides that can't find a thing wrong with it....the things people throw out these days,

BTW: This is a 25 inch color with built in stereo speakers etc. Still can't believe someone just threw it out.

I have installed several Dish systems for myself, friends and family including multiple multi dish systems. If you have one dual LNB with a receiver connected to each output and don't need to upgrade to Dish 500, then either adding a SW42 switch or another separate dish will get you what you want. I'm not sure what this will cost you though. The Dishmover program used to provide a new Dish 500 dish for about $75 to $100. You can message me off thread if you need more info.
