dishnetwork wiring question..

   / dishnetwork wiring question.. #11
When wiring a house for cable/phone/data nowdays I would run 3/4" smurf tube (the blue flexible stuff) from a double wide box to somewhere, like the basement or attic, where I could get cables to. Install a pulling line. Cable and similar wiring requirements are changing so fast that I want an easy way to pull in different or additional wiring.

Now I am really confused again..

Cup149 (assuming i understand it correctly) said the signal would feed back through the house wiring to deliver the signal to all other tv's..-therefore no additional direct cable needed..

Anojones says I need to feed the second tv directly off the receiver via a separate wire. My house is wired similare to Anojones..

Any clarification would be appreciated..

My understanding is if that you feed the signal back thru the cable and then to other televisions you have to be watching the same channel on all televisions-that might be just fine in your situation (a deal breaker for our situation). The signal can't just be split like with cable. We have two transponders (correct word?) on our dish and two coax cables coming into the house for two boxes and two televisions- it cost more than a dual tuner box (essentially two boxes crammed into one) but I didn't want to run cable (read: drill a holes in the floor of our new house) to make it work. I wish I'd thought about the tube idea- I'd love to have conduit from the attic to each room that has low voltage wiring (phone, coax and ethernet). I'm sure all that ethernet cable will become obselete as network traffic speeds increase etc.

The best place on the internet to get your DirectTv or Dish Network questions answered, along with general satellite questions is the DBStalk forums. The forums there deal with DBS just like TBN deals with tractors. I'll wager all your questions have been asked and answered there already.

thanks everyone.. After all this I think it would just be easier to get two receivers so no wiring has to be changed..

thanks

Thatguy,

You don't have to change any wiring in your house. Your existing cable will work to feed tv2. Dish will just back feed the signal from tuner 2 into your existing house wiring. If you do decide to get a second receiver than Dish will pull in new cable if yours isn't RG6. Most houses are installed with RG59 and that cable can't handle the bandwidth that satellite require. As for receivers, you mentioned a dual tuner DVR. If you are not getting a HD receiver thean you will be receiving either a 522 or a 625 receiver. If you have HD then you will definately want the 622. If you have any questions or need answers, check out www.satelliteguys.us The forum there consists of the same type of people you find here. Very helpful and friendly.

Good luck.

I will say that I have been extremely unhappy with my Dish Network. Our one year contract is just about up, and I plan to try DirectTV in hopes that it is better.
You may want to look at that contract - At least in our area, and I thought nationally, DISH does not have a committment for time, in other words you can drop them any time you like.
