I have a "Maytag Jetclean dishwasher Super Capacity Quiet Plus II" that just started leaking during the drain cycle. I pulled the unit apart and feel pretty comfortable that the seal between the motor and the dishwasher innards is the culprit. Trouble is, I can't figure out how to separate the motor from the rest of the unit (I've removed the five bolts that seem to connect the two sides by cannot pull the pieces apart). Has anyone done this before? I have to give a note of kudos to Maytag for installing what is obviously a guttering system to prevent the broken seal from letting water into the motor and frying it. Any ideas guys?

A lot of those are replace as assembly now... Anymore, we just change the whole machine unless it's a really simple part. Most of the time the parts cost as much or more than the whole unit.

Most of the economy models are just a rubbermaid trash can with a pump on the bottom. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

An update: the assembly uses numerous press-on plastic fins (glorified fans that act as water movers, much like you'd find in a vacuum cleaner), some of which you can get out using small 3 jaw pullers. As you get further in, though, clearance becomes a huge issue and the jaws don't fit. Noting that I had replacement fins in my $40 repair kit from Maytag, I ended up using 3 self tapping screws with large washers attached and connected the jaws of my puller to that. I eventually came to a point where that wouldn't work any more, though - things were too far countersunk and/or nothing to grab on to. It turns out that the leaking water had rusted the motor shaft/seal assembly together and half disintegrated the shaft. Sigh. Time for that whole new assembly that was mentioned ($200 blown there...) or just a new machine - perhaps that's the better way after seven years of basically daily use.

We bought a new mobile home in '97 that came with a GE dishwasher and when the pump sprung a leak after 3 or 4 years, I thought I'd just replace the pump, but couldn't figure out how to get the pump and motor separated. So I called GE and found they're only sold as a unit together. So we replaced the dishwasher with a Maytag. The Maytag was also quieter than the GE, but in spite of their advertising claims, I'd never seen a dishwasher that I'd call "quiet" until we bought this house with a KitchenAid dishwasher.
