Brad, Hmmmm... 14" is on the "too big" side of things, to my taste. A hp to inch rule is just that, a rule of thumb. The soil would have to be pretty darn near perfect in conditions. A 12" plow, if found, would work well for you.

An inexpensive XB middle buster would plow it up for $140. It's not what I call a share plow, or turning plow but it will work well.

John, for what you want to do, you will be fine. A disk remains an over looked implement that should be in most guys arsenal.
I traded a Boxblade for a single bottom plow (Pictures added)to milkman today and sold his brother my Pat's and the toothbar. They saw my horse drawn disc harrow in my yard and asked why I was trying to buy a disc harrow when I have one. I figured it was locked up and they felt I should try using it first which I think I'll do. Here's picture of it.

Brad, you say 250' by 250'?

No way I'd personally want to SLOOOOOWLY do all the sod busting with a tiller on a piece that big. A tiller is an awesome implement, but 1.5 acres is a huge task for tilling semi virgin soil. I'd bust it up first. Once busted, you could put that tiller to work and buddy, you'd have a fine garden patch, I'm sure.

This is just me talking.

JT, you sly dog!! you had a disk all along? Why in God's green earth haven't you drug that ol' thing around and give it a try? I totally agree with Milkman. Try it! Shoot, I was in your neighborhood last weekend, (Casey County). If it was just sitting there, I might have talked you out of it. Instead, all I brought home was two Speckled Sussex hens and a rooster. :D

well.. i guess the best thing might be to get a guy down the street with a bigger machine to work it up first. then my tiller could keep it from over growing

No sly dog, just dumb. I figure the discs are locked up but I'm game for dragging it up to the house and checking to see what shape it's in. You probably could have talked me into or out of it last week. I offered it to my Preacher since he's an old farm boy/man and remembers the "good ole days" on the farm. He didn't take it, he just wants a picture of it. You should have came by and talked me out of or into something. I got rid of a toothbar, almost new Boxblade and a set of Pat's today from a fellow TBNer and his brother from north western Ky. He lusted after my BX25 but couldn't talk him into driving it but he did drive the BX2660. He and his brother left happy and I'm happy. Enjoy getting people and implements together without breaking the bank.

I found an ad with this double gang disk harrow that would work well with any of our cut tractors, I didn't even know they made the double this small,
I think the ad read 54" 12 disk and weigh 300 lbs.
the one I currently have works great, But I have seen the 2 gang in use and with the 2 rows of disk angled away from the other the soil gets double cultivated
