The "Rain Forest Cafe" is a great restaurant at "Downtown Disney". Unique atmosphere and excellent food.

On Sand Lake Road, about 10 minutes from your hotel, is a restaurant called "Timpano's". Awesome food but pricey. It's mostly locals in an upscale area called "Doctor Phillips". Right next door is "The Samba Room". Same deal. Ask the concierge for menus. I've eaten at both, paid plenty, and thought it was worth it.

A couple hundred yards from these restaurants is a gourmet "McDonalds". Gourmet coffee, deserts and table service! You gotta go just to get a picture!

That's a pretty nice area. Everything you need is close by. Stay off International drive if you can help it. Bad food and worse traffic. There are some outlet shops (Belz) at the North end of "I" drive that are good. I shop there occasionally. There's also a HUGE Bass Pro/Outdoor World shop next to Belz. Ditch the wife and go in there!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Have a great time.

Golgar4,

We have tried to play golf in the past, tried is the key word. Perhaps when the kids are off to school and have more time to put into the game we will get better /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks for the info on the fast pass, I have heard of it before but was not sure how it worked, you cleared that up for me now /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tom,

We went to Disney once during the week between Christmas and New Years. I'm not sure of the year but I would guess it was in the early 90's. My brother treated us and them with a stay at the Polynesian Village. The stay cost $400 a night but I could lay on my bed and see the castle all lit up across the lake. I'd have preferred one of those cash bar refers I think! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I would never do it again!!!! The two things that stick out the most for me are:

The four of us had to walk single file down Main Street in the kingdon there were so many people. The crowd was insane and the lines were ridiculous. Don't count on getting a lot done. I woud spend the buck to stay in the park, get going to the parks as early as possible and go back to the hotel and enjoy the pool when things get bad.

Then there were the people from other cultures who obviously don't look at the whole line thing and waiting your turn etiquette the same way our country does. Not that people here are saints but this took rudeness to a whole new level for me. The only advice for this I have is......take a bat!!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
