Hey all, just thought I'd bring to your all's attention my frustration with the wench. 1st day of play Whammo. Check this out. Busted hydraulic line. No Good. After a couple of days having a custum hose made and $30 later (Not worth the time and aggrevation of sending back to Tazwell or having to wait) I tried it out. First off, no quick release to unreal spool for quick set up. You have to hydrauliclly undo it and it takes at least 1-2 minutes to let out the 50' of cable. Realin in is fine. i"m not in a hurry. Unless your tied into a tree you'll pull yourself as well as potentially damage PT with pulling. Additionally, the spool, when winding up doesn't stay tight and can get caught up and not spool neatly creating pinches in the cable. Enough bitching. Not worth the money folks. Don't recommend.

Thanks for the review. My long range plan was to get one. I guess not now unless you want to sell yours for a song.

That looks nothing like the picture on their web site.

The one on the website has the selector valve mounted to the attachment plate. It looks like it is designed to have a free wheel mode to it, with the flip down lever.

(dang... inline images don't seem to be working right now)

Is this winch an older unit. This unit seems to have a larger hyd motor, and directly driven. The winch on PT web site, has a smaller hyd motor, and uses gear reduction. If the right valve is used, the unit should freewheel. If you are pulling a load up to tractor weight, you should be able to pull with brakes applied. If the load is greater than tractor weight, you should tie the back end to a tree or use a ground anchor system. A tight spool should wind neatly if the direction of pull is correct.

The website shows the old design.

All the things you say would be nice. But the New one in the picture(to date, not even 2 weeks old) has no option for free spool. I have used my brake and it will hold you till you max out opposite couter resistance then it begins to drag you. As I also mentioned, you can tie yourself to a tree and drag however you start to tilt even if bucket is lowered, as well as wonder whether your'll rip apart winch or PT framing.

Maybe it's just us Kalifornia guys ... I was expecting a story involving a scantily clad unruley woman with a growler of ale /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I too was expecting the thread to match the Subject line. How cruel for someone to discuss a WINCH when they bait us with a WENCH topic.

Ditto, I don't see so well and thought it said wrench instead of wench. So wondering which wench bought the winch? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Even if he spelled it right, you would misunderstand.

John,
Where did you get the new hose? I'm up the road from you and like to have a source when the time comes. Thanks

If the lever that controls the quick attach is what operates it instead of a seperate valve, Have you tried to hold the lever in the direction that it would take to hydraulically unwind it with the pt turned off and foul the lever in that position and tried to pull it? By holding the lever in or out which ever is needed to unwind it you are opening up a path for the oil in the lines to move which might let you manually pull the cable off . I haven't saw their winch but that is just a thought that I had might not work but worth a try. I don't like the way the hoses come out of the motor a ninety degree would look better instead of the fittings standing out as far making it easier to hit them and break them.

Out,

Not sure where you are but it your familiar with Johnson's Lumber off Rt. 32. Keep past that and there is a Toro dealer at the end or the cul de sac by the golf coarse. This is either West Friendship or Sykesville area

He spelled it right. "Wench" is nothing more than and English "Winch" .

It's a language thing... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

What is the rating on the winch? If you are pulling, tied to a tree, is your hook up point as close to the bottom of the tree? If it is, and you have the lift arms pressed down in the ground, it doesn't seem like you would raise the back end. I don't think you would ever pull the PT apart. I would replace that hose with a 90 degree fitting, or just add a 90 degree fitting to the hose.
