Ditch flail mower too big for my Kubota?

That's your choice to do it that way. I said it takes learning and finesse. You have to know your equipment. I'd retract it rather than lift it. But it looks like your have a bigger tractor than me. :giggle:

And I certainly would know where any obstacles were on my property. I'd spend the time cleaning my place up. Even when I mow along the county and state roads bordering my land, I make at least one pass looking for trash, carcasses, car parts and whatever. I've found it all. The county road is the worst for trash. People use the stretch coming up to the stop sign as a dumping ground.

I have been reading up on ditch mowers for the past several years, and will likely end up with a Peruzzo Elk 60" flail. I am still concerned that it will be too much weight hanging off the side of my L4060, which is similar weight to the op's L5460. The Peruzzo weighs 860 lbs, compared to the 1540 lb mower the op was asking about.
You'll be fine, I have a Betstco AGL165 which is a 65" at just shy of 800lbs and my L3240 rops with loaded R4's handle it just fine.

I can even have it offset and suspended without a problem. I do have the LA724 loader on while using it, but even with the bucket off its still plenty stable.

You can get away with it if you are careful. Once the roller is on the ground, the tractor doesn’t carry the weight.
I run a similar Berti 2 meter ditch bank flail on my 60 PTO hp LS. All totaled, it weighs about 1800 lbs.
You would definitely need the tires loaded and want them spaced out as far as practicable.
I mostly mow flat land, but I also mow the ditches next to the highway, but that has quite a bit more pucker factor.

I think that’s where we gotta be careful. Your tractor isn’t exactly what his tractor is.
We gotta be careful. The OP gets in over his head and somebody gets hurt. I don’t like the idea of a relative beginner pushing the limits.

You are correct, my offset ditch/bank mower is probably the most dangerous attachment I have. While the mower part is arguably safer than a rotary cutter, the weight combined with the hydraulic operation as well as needing a very long PTO shaft and how far it hangs off the right side of the tractor requires constant attention to make sure that I don’t run it into anything, or move the hydraulics too quickly which could conceivably tip the tractor over.

However, I also don’t want to be the guy that tells the OP that it can’t be done and he should buy a 100hp tractor to run such an implement.

The manufacturer of my specific mower rated it for 60-110hp tractors. Mine is 60hp at the PTO, but I don’t feel that if my tractor was 5 hp less that I couldn’t run my mower in most situations.

Hello and good evening Mr. Corazza if you decide on this specific flail mower for your current mule I would strongly suggest that that you add a loaded dual tire on the left side of the L6060.

It would be safer and a more stable implement for you to purchase a boom mounted Maschio Giraffa M 47 inch cut orchard and vineyard flail shredder as it will be a safer mower.

I would talk to either one of the following Maschio Dealers in Takoma Park, Md which is Purple Mountain Organics or Atlantic Tractor in Salisbury, Md.

You really need a local dealer for parts and support as you would be a new user of a flail mower like this.

Same out here. Bicycles, dead dogs, beverage cans. You name it.

The dual would be unnecessary, if he's using loaded R4 it will be fine, if unloaded or using R1 I would recommend wheel weights and possibly widening the track width.
That size tractor will handle that mower no problem from my experience.
