Is there any way to access the side of the inj pump.??
Sometimes there is the throttle plate that’s removable, that will give u access..usually held on by 4- 10mm bolts..
If u can access the pumps control rack, u can make sure it’s moving freely..
It sounds as if the shut off solenoid went bad, if it all of a sudden shut off while u were using it..

What could go bad in the injection pump that would mimic the stop solenoid going bad?

If the solenoid went bad, the pumps control rack would be moved to the “no start” position..But could be moved by hand to the “run” position.
