Has anyone done a diverter install on either an L39 or L45 to run a grapple? If so, I'd really appreciate some tips/tricks/pics.

I'm going to tackle an install. I've been having some trouble figuring out where to mount the valve. The curl lines are really well protected and the loader valve is located down along the frame under the floorboard. This installation is a bit unique compared to the typical that has the loader valve mounted up on the loader towers.

Post some pictures of the loader so we can offer suggestions. Some diverters are larger and harder to mount that's others, we sell a pretty compact one tnat may help.

The parts manual for the L39 loader shows an optional diverter valve mounted inside the frame opposite the loader valve. See the attached page. Note that the way manual shows the valve plumped, it is diverting all flow to the loader. You could mount a valve in the same location for diverting curl flow which would be better for operating a grapple.

That's actually a true 3rd function solenoid valve. I had installed that on my older L39. The plumbing is similar enough, maybe that location will work for the L45 also.

My biggest "issue" is that I need to re-use the current curl hoses, right? So wherever I choose to mount needs to be near the current end of those hoses.

I'm using the valve supplied by Fit Rite:

It's not so much the size of the valve I'm concerned with. It's more getting it mounted in a spot to use the stock curl hoses.

Good, the one Brian sells is a nice one for sure if you have room since the ports are on three sides. Don't be stuck on using the stock hoses as new ones are easily made to suit the valve location. I have seen them mounted up on the torque tube, but I think that's to vulnerable and prefer inside the right mast if possible.

Is it considered "butcher" to use a union to join hoses?

The stock hoses go from the loader valve along the frame rail up to a solid line that runs inside the loader arm.

I don't think putting it on the crosstube is an option on this machine. There is no point past the main loader pivot that the curl circuit is combined and a hose. It is solid tube from the main pivot up the arms. Then 1 side Ts out for the right curl cylinder. The hard line continues across the tube and ends at a soft line to the left cylinder.

This valve is going to have to go either on the frame or on the main loader structure. I might be able to extract the stock hose from the main loader structure.

It's only difficult because Kubota did such a great job protecting these hoses on the commercial TLBs.

Get us some pictures, it makes things much easier to make recommendations. Do not be concerned about having to reuse hoses. I will provide whatever hoses and fittings that are needed to complete your installation how you want it done.

Typically I prefer the valve to be located on the loader tower, but for various reasons that is not always practical. :(

I'll grab some when I am home Saturday. I was hoping there were some others that had done this before to get me some ideas. No biggies.

Ok, I'm finally home so here are some pics. The loader is tough to photo.

This is the loader valve. It is mounted to the outside of the frame rail on the right side behind a protective shield:

Here is the last point in the system that the curl functions are not split between both sides. This is under the right side loader arm.

Here is an overview of the right side loader tower.

Here is where the loader tower connects to the frame. I kinda like that area for the new valve.

There are these holes already in the frame I might be able to fab a bracket off of.

Thoughts/suggestions?
