I am looking at purchasing a used (2004) Dixon 4423 zero turn mower. The seller says it has around 150 hrs and is in excellent condition. It has a 44inch mulching deck, with gator blades. It also has the 15.5 hp Briggs and Stratton Vanguard commercial engine. Wants $1600. Is this a fair price? Is this a good mower.? Am looking for a good mower to mow 3-4 acres (as quickly as possilble.) Thanks.

AQAP would happen with a wider model. :D
Not sure what the cones are that had to be replaced in this one.

I think that's a pretty decent price, but the 1st thing I would do is take those Gator blades off it truely has a mulching deck. The mulching blades will work much better than gators with the mulcher. IMHO Gators are great for side discharges where you want to chop up the clippings a little more than normal blades, but they aren't worth a flip on a mulching setup...

Thanks for the reply. I am pretty sure I am going to buy this...wasn't aware of the different blade options. I will have to look into it. Hopefully will be getting this on Thursday and will let you know how it goes.

So??? How'd it go? I must admit I'm a bit jealous. I've been looking @ a 60" deck Kubota for almost a year now and haven't been able to pull the trigger yet...

Just picked up the 4423 tonight for $1500. It is going to take a while to get used to the zero turn controls, but hopefully the learning curve will be quick. The guy we bought it from had a hilly yard, and there wasn't an even patch of grass anywhere on the lot, so we had to test drive on slopes and that made it a little tricky. Our lot is very flat, so hopefully it will work great on our yard. Even the wife got on to try it out, and I think we will like it.
