Good points. Yes there is a great place that lets me pick through their cutoff racks and pay by the pound. I had wondered about making pins from round stock but thought I would check on “store bought” ones availability.
Sometimes you can get a decent deal on pins in stock at the local tractor dealer. I once picked up some Kubota hard pins for a reasonable amount from the local dealer. You can not count on that, however, as list prices can be shocking. Also, TractorSupply or AgriSupply may have a store in your area. Or a locally-owned farm-supply retailer. They prob will not be drilled pins.
