Ok now guys please try to enlighten me on these three, that seem so close to each other spec wise. There does not seem to be all that much difference out side of hp,and the tranny on the 45,so why not just buy the 45 when the prices are not that far apart from 35 to 45? The measurements are only inches different from smallest to largest, and weight is not that far off either....What am I missing here?

You’re not missing much. The 45 is a bigger machine. I guess many people just don't want something that big and can save a couple thousand. The 40 & 45 have 4 cyl engines. I have many people come on the lot and when they see the 45 next to the 35 they just don't want something as big as the 45 and they don't need it. The 40 & 45 are really close in size. The 45 is capably of the larger 1590 loader, we as the 40 will only take the 1470. The 35, 40 and 45 all have different size tires which also change the overall size of the machine. When people are looking at the 40 they usually tend to go up to the 45. The basic layout on each tractor is pretty much the same. The price does go up quite a bit from the DK35 to the 45 though.

I did not notice that much of a jump in price for 5 and 10 hp more. But then again I'm used to ag tractors where it can cost $1,000 or more for each hp with some brands.

price jump is about 1500 + jump between the models, so you would be talking 3000 + jump between the 35 and 45. That can make alot of difference to alot of peoples pocket books.

Woodbeef,
I could only push the budget so far then had to draw the line somewhere.
That line came at the 35. But the DK 35 handles maintaining my 15 acres with ease so thats good enough for me !!
At times a 45 would be nice, but not usually nessasary for my uses.

I own both a DK35 and a DK45. The 45 is about half again the tractor the 35 is. The 45 weighs just over 6000# with me in the seat and the FEL attached. The 35 weighs a little over 4000# dressed the same way. The 45 acts like a brute and pushes through anything I give it to do. The 35 is more polite and graceful. My opinion is the 35 is perfect for moving stuff around, mowing, etc. The 45 will do anything you want it to and with an attitude if you like. Both tractors are very nice. The difference between the is much more significant than 10HP.

Ok so then the DK 35 is for the guys wanting the smaller, lighter, lower cost tractor. Then the 45 for the ones wanting the size and hp no matter the extra cost. Where does that leave the DK40?

Still just my opinion! The 40 seemed like a just slightly smoother version of the 35 because of the 4 cylinders. Idleing around the yard, the 35 feels no less powerful, possibly even a little more, than the 40 probably because of the slightly larger cylinders. The 40 shows more power when revved to nearer rated RPM. This is mainly evident when useing PTO equipment since the 35 nor the 40 have enough tire to hold the power without some significant weight. Another comparison?? The 35 drives like a sports car...fun -- the 45 drives like a pickup...purposeful. I like both equally though for different reasons. If I had no work that required a 45, I would chose the 35 just because it is a blast to drive.
