Dk or CK

I have DK and just over 5 acres like yourself. My uses seem to be completely different than yours but that said I wouldn't trade the DK45 for anything smaller. Heck, I would mind something bigger.

I've had no problem with the tractor sinking due to weight. I have also found no situation where I would rather have the HST. I drove a neighbor's tractor with an HST and the only thing I could think of in my uses that I would use it for is if I was doing constant loader work going back and forth to say load a truck.

This is probably true. I do a lot of loader/barn/stall work and it makes things SO much easier. On the other hand, I am looking at a MF for hay and tillage in the near future and since it is in the large utility class HST is not an option (power shuttle) but won't be an issue because of it's intended use.

For manuevering the woods, HST has an advantage, at least for me it does. Very precise travelling around trees and obstacles. For loader work, HST. Mowing fields, cultivating fields = gear.

Pretty simple looking at your list. HST.

If the DK will get through your woods, then get it. It's more tractor, you may not use all of it all the time but you'll be kicking yourself if you ever need the power or weight (weight can be added to the CK though). It's nice to not have to be too concerned about money. Get what you need first them get what you want, especially if the price isn't holding you back and the wife signs off on it with no argument!!!!!

If money is not that big an issue, get the HST. If you've read any amount of posts on here I don't think you will find a poster that has had an HST of any brand say that he wishes he would have gotten a gear version instead. Once you get use to it, you'll appreciate it more. I fought it for twenty some years before I converted and my head is sore from beating it against the wall for not giving it a chance back then. If you plan on being in the woods, I would recommend the DK as well, just for more stability. I own a CK30 HST and just from sitting in the seat of a DK, it seemed as though it would much more suitable driving over stumps and bumps. It is a bit wider track which would dictate that thought as well. If you really want to step up you could even look at the DK40SE as it has an even higher capacity loader. IF IslandTractor stepped in here he could probably sell you on one of those. Good luck on whatever model or brand you choose.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. It sounds like the concensus is DK with HST. How can I go wrong??? Oh, I wish I wasn't so indecisive!!!

I've had a CK20 and now have a DK40se. The CK and DK lines are both great tractors so I'd say the choice comes down to what you really expect to do with the machine and how important doing it more quickly is compared to the advantages of a smaller footprint. There is no wrong choice between a CK30 and a DK35. That said, if I did not specifically need the smaller size, and if I could afford the upgrade, I'd go for the DK. It is a bit more modern with a more comfortable operator station and has about 30-40% more lift capacity. That said, I voted with my feet and went one step further to the DK40se just to get an even more powerful loader for not much extra over the DK35. I'll probably start a war here but I do think that the DK40se represents the sweet spot right now.

no war with me IT. I agree completely with you that the DK40 seems to be the right blended tractor.

I have a DK45 HST, and I wouldn't own the gear version, just because of all the FEL work I do. The other thing you may want to consider is this, what do you think you will need the tractor to do in the future? Your immediate needs can be managed by several tractors that Kioti sells. My word of caution is not to go too small to start. If you do, you will find yourself helping your dealer make another sale in 2 years or so.

Good luck in your search, and hope you are happy with your purchase. I went to a 45, and Like Mark R said, I now wish I had a 55 or 65. Bigger tractors do bigger jobs quicker. Course they cost more too:)
