The "range selector" lever is read by a potentiometer, (similar to a switch, but it reads a scale from 0 to 5 Volts, rather than just on/off).
If you move the range selector to the forward neutral position, does it start? Sometimes the pot may have a dead spot, but either neutral position should allow it to start, IF it's working correctly.

no it does start if I play with the shifter at either neutral, the display on the dash still says what gear it is in, if that matters.

Did you get it started yet? If not, your PTO lever is in the "engaged" position.

No I haven't been out there yet, it's below zero out there, I did play with the switch for the PTO

So it DOES start if you get the range selector in the 'sweet spot' close to either neutral?
And when it starts, you're showing it's in gear on the display, even though it's actually in neutral?
If that is the case, the neutral safety potentiometer is mis-adjusted where it contacts the range selector.

There is a know problem with some small percentage of the cruise control modules. At very low tempratures there can be an issue with them. It is located under your left foot up under the floor. It reads the position of the Hydrostatic transmission range selector lever's Potentiometer. Of course it could easily be a bad pot also with a "dead spot" in it. Anyway one of the cruise modules functions is to throw a ground on the low side of the starter relay. Without this ground the relay coil will not energize, the contacts will not pull in, and no voltage will be sent to the starter solenoid.

We did drive it in about 10in of snow, would that make a difference?

First thing I would do is measure for voltage on the starter relay when my helper turned the key to the start position. It looks like red/green .5mm the ground side is black/blue. As soon as a ground comes out of the cruise module and as soon as +12 volts is applied from the key switch, the relay should energize. (pull up). Its contacts send voltage to the starter solenoid. The starter relay is the first relay on the left of the 3 on the firewall as you look toward the firewall with the engine at your right hand.

If I had 12 volts on the coil of the relay when the key was turned to start, by your helper, and if the voltage was on BOTH sides of the coil, then I would do a double blind test by taking an alligator clip to the low side the black/blue wire contact and the relay then should energize and the tractor should crank. Then I would test for a ground out of pin 21 of one of the two connectors on the cruise module. There is a diode in series with this pin/wire, that could be defective. If no ground came out of the cruise module, then replace we would need to measure the sensor connections and voltages from the range selector pot. OR. You could leave the clip lead in position permantaly and forget about the range selector safety switch and PTO switch, etc..When you hit the key she will crank, no matter what... NO SAFETY of any kind.

OK I will check it on Saturday when the temperature is above 25 here, thanks for your time, I hope it's only the relay.
