DK35 still going!

My father inlaw loves to brush hog my pasters every year. While this may sound like a good deal it sometimes is a little nerve racking. He's getting old and don't remeber things to well. This year as in every year I give him all the details on how to operate my DK one of which is operating RPM. Which I told him it runs just fine at 2500 for brush hogging. I found out later that he had been running up between 2800 and 3000 RPM because it wasn't going fast enough. I also told him, which he forgot, to hog in low 4th or hi 1st. needless to say he was in low 4th. My point is this tractor is one tough cookie to have my father inlaw operate it and it still runs like a top. But, I can't say no to him operating it because he looks so forward to doing my pastures every year and he don't look forward to much else because he lives in the land of fruits and nuts.

Hopefully your engine governer is working OK.
It should only let the motor run up to a certain RPM.
I think the DK 35 is around 2700 or 2800 RPM.
Running the engine up to the governer does not hurt anything.
If I get into a heavy section of grass or brush ,for a while I will ignore PTO speed and run full throttle.
The engine governer will keep it from over reving.(unless pulling a lot of wheight down hill.)

SO let the father in law have some fun,he will not hurt it.

John, I commend you for trying to make his days brighter by letting him use your tractor. One of these days when you move to the land of fruits and nuts (and most of us will eventually) maybe someone will return the favor.

Thanks for all your support. Good thing there's a govenor. Oh by the way the land of fruit and nuts is California. My father in law lives north of San Diego 20 miles. I was raised there and married my wife while in the Navy in San Diego. Lived just up the street from my wife since she was 8.
